several times I had the problem, that Rust game instantly crashes (e.g. while running through the map) and I returned to windows desktop with Rust closed and only Steam opened menu (like it was before when I started Rust).
My question: is there a log file where I can see what happened (what caused the issue)? If yes, where do I need to post the file to held finding/fixing the issue?

There are few threads regarding this issue, you probably have an AMD gpu, it is a bug in the unity engine, and we have to wait for them to fix it..
Try starting Rust with the fast setting
