I want to play Rust with a decent FPS but without loosing the beauty of the game and objects. Also in game you are able to move bars left and right to adjust graphics settings but i am unsure as to what they actually do/effect could someone inform me?
You are out of luck budy.. the game has some horrible problems with graphics at the moment.. no matter what i do.. i get 10-20fps.. PC specs: AMD Phenom II x6 1090t (3600mhz) GTX 970 250gb SSD disk-.. something has to be wrong.. i upgraded the video card from a Radeon HD 6950 to the GTX 970... no diference, the video card ussage is preety much none now.. its great, now the computer runs cool, but i get shit fps.. seems the game is ussing CPU mostly.. dont know why... and the GPU is almost not ussed..
If you have an Nvidia card, try doing this:
The option I would recommend for you is to use Nvidia Inspector, which also lets you set other options in terms of performance. They currently do have a profile for Rust (under the name "RUST"), and there you can more efficiently set the settings for it. Another thing you can do if you don't feel like dealing with the higher-end tech stuff, you can go to the Nvidia Control Panel by right-licking on an empty spot on your desktop, selecting "Nvidia Control Panel", and adding the Rust.exe to the list. It still won't show up on GeForce Experience, but now it will definitely run on your Nvidia GPU.
Note that it (obviously) requires you having an Nvidia graphics card and not an AMD or Intel cards.
Try F1 console, then: graphics.shadowdistance 0 It helps a bit for me, but sorry if the game is not working well on your PC. @Jack, 1) lower them all, then try to raise a few and see how it looks. Not sure how to find a good balance for you. You can watch your FPS and try to stay above 30 FPS and get the best graphics possible. 2) Post the setting name and we can try to answer what it does.
I would expect more frames on a 1080p setup which I'm assuming you have on a 970... but its luck of the draw tbh. Running 1 980 (sli doesn't work, saaad) over 5760x1200 yields at least 25-30 fps on max these days - devs have really improved performance!! if we could get sli working, I would have gary's babies! ambient occlusion makes a huge difference to my frames, nothing else seems to make a difference. I've not tried the new update yet, supposed to have performance improvements and more graphics options

I get 7-8 more FPS by doing so. I think Garry stated somewhere that doing this does increase your FPS a bit as well. Can't remember the link tho. I got 120+ FPS -intel core i7-4930 -Nvidia gtx 680 -32gb ram -Windows 7 64bit -SSD Hard drive
