Ok, fairly minor, unimportant issue, but probably still worthwhile mentioning.
According to the patch notes:

I've eaten a 3 cans of tuna so far, but it never returned an empty can. This was working on this server during the last update.
Anyone else having this issue?
Yep, same problem here. Worked for a day or too but now it dosen't. :(
Has been hit or miss for me. I've seen it both ways, but more often than not there's no empty can.
