Hey guys, so I've had this problem that whenever I want to play rust legacy it just doesn't run, I just press play and nothing happens, and yes I'm properly running rust legacy mode(changed it from properties). So if you know any solution please help me out.
Have you checked your processes, if it even is running Rust?
Have you tried verify game files?

Yes I checked the processes, it does run but then it closes itself.
How do I verify game files
Right click your Rust game in the steam game library - properties - local files -verify game cache

I verified, still doesnt work
What are your system specs, and are your drivers up to date?

4 gigs RAM? Yeek
I think the fact that you're trying to run Windows 10 and Rust Legacy (even legacy - it's unoptimized) on a laptop with Intel HD Graphics 3000 and 4GB of RAM is your first problem.
It was never a gaming-focused laptop (at least not for intensive 3D games; it'll run Bejeweled just fine) and now that it's about two and a half years old it's even further handicapped.
I hate to say it, but, in general, you need a new machine if you want to run any graphically-intensive new game - Rust or otherwise. I don't think you'll be able to play Fallout 4 on it either, and even Skyrim would probably struggle and need a lot of performance tweaks. I'm sure the laptop works fine, it's just not equipped to run higher-end games like Rust (even legacy, as bad as it looks).
That is the problem trying to play on a craptop
Has anyone else run Legacy on Windows 10? It might just not work.
Wait, where did he say he was running Windows 10?

His flagdog icons show he's posting from a Windows 10 machine. I'm assuming he's posting from the machine he's trying legacy on. If not, his specs are still kind of a problem anyway.

You got it wrong, I could run rust like 5 months ago with high graphics and still get high performance, and in any other games too (btw i forgot to say i have Nvidia 710m) the problem is i cant play it anymore and before i updated to windows 10 i tried running it on 8.1 but it still didnt work.

with all due respect, i have a better rig (3.0ghz, 8gb ram and the same nvidia 710m) and have never been able to run experimental branch with high graphics getting high performance.
i agree with elix; your rig does not really meet minimum specs; especially considering recent memory leaks and increases in requirements.

read the post it clearly says LEGACY
Considering legacy isn't supported anymore, I would not be surprised if it doesn't play nice with Win10.
Set your notebook to use the Nvidia card instead of the integrated graphics, in case Rust is trying to use the Intel HD.
Legacy will run fine on that rig, plenty of people were playing it on shitty integrated graphics and 4GB of RAM back in the day, and it hasn't changed at all since then.
As for it running on Windows 10, I haven't seen anyone confirm that it does or does not work, but OP said it wouldn't run for him on Windows 8 either, in spite of the fact that it did at some point previously. So something broke.
The only suggestion I have that it appears hasn't been suggested yet is to delete your Rust configuration files from the folder /SteamApps/common/Rust/cfg and force new config files to be written next time your start the game. This folder is located inside your Steam library folder, I can't remember the default location.
Set the .exe to run in compatibility mode for win 7.

oh, overlooked that. you mean people still play legacy? learn something new every day i guess.
legacy has not been updated meaningfully in the last 5 months if at all (there was a small patch a while back, but i think that's even longer than 6 months ago). therefore if you COULD play legacy on high with high performance, you should still be able to. i'd start by looking at what changes you have made to your rig in the last 5 months and work from there.
