If it's not injected into the game then you're fine. Even then it's a shame you need a map when others can memorize terrain in the first place.
What? You used it to install cheatpunch? :v: And yeah, if the program injects any dll's it could VAC ban you.
It sniffs data packets and read your position out of it. http://www.unknowncheats.me/forum/rust/107118-rust-gps-1-0-a.html It got released on a cheating site so you should be aware. Also the creator says that he will implement a function in the next version that displays players who are near you. For me that sounds like a really big advantage and I would say thats cheating.

Fyi there are a LOT of people getting banned for this.
Trying to figure how just how you would detect such a thing.
To know your location or others in game, it would need to be reading data from a game so it probably modifies game files = Ban!

Yes, it is possible to be banned because of this program. It just happened to me. And it was a VAC ban, not from cheatpunch. I'm positive RustGPS triggered the ban because I never installed or used anything else.
Kinda obvious that you will be banned for this. Just don't install anything unless it's from Rust itself. It gives you a huge advantage, and that's not allowed obviously.
Let's not forget Gabe Newell just admitted VAC sniffs your visited domains for sites on blacklist, ie. known cheating sites. It sends back that information to Valve. I'm not certain if this is used as the sole piece of evidence against you(and I'm sure it's not as that would be ridiculous).

He literally said VAC does NOT do this. Once VAC determines a hack is active, it reads the hack's DRM traffic and compares the destination against a known list of cheat sites. This is a secondary trigger. I'll repeat, VAC DOES NOT SNOOP YOUR TRAFFIC. I could Google and visit every cheat site while connected to a VAC server in any game and I will not get banned. VAC strictly monitors game files and any extraneous traffic from those files, e.g. hack "phoning home". Edit: I just remembered he also said this secondary trigger is inactive. It only worked for a while until hack devs started altering the cheater's DNS file, causing VAC to read incorrect sites. Another reason not to cheat. Hacks can and will alter anything they want on your computer, not just game files.
My advice just play the game the way it was supposed to be played, then soon enough you will have memorised the map.
