my pc:
Intel Core i5 3570 @ 3.40GHz
MB: ASUS P8Z77-M
2x4GB DDR3 Dual Channel @ 812.1 MHz G.Skill
ASUS 295 GTX
PSU: HuntKey APFC 700
Win7 Ultimate 64Bit
Now i can play any game i want for as long as i want, my pc holds them all just fine!
but rust... now that's a different story! after 10 to 30 min, i used to have the screen go into sleeping mode and had to hard reset,
but then i updated all my drivers including BIOS update, and now while the monitor stays on, the computer freezes! only way out is hard reset!
and its only with Rust! now i researched a little bit, and found out others are having the same issue! and that it came after one of the newer updates (not sure which one).
So... and that is a question to the devs, are you guys aware of this? are you doing anything to fix it?
Graphic card?
Graphic card?
what about it?
Try running in administrator mode, if that doesnt work, try running in Windows 98 compatibility mode.
Is your gfx card overheating perhaps? Usually an overheating part will just cause the computer to shut down entirely all of a sudden, or at least BSOD, but if it's your graphics card then I could see a hard freeze happening...
I'm sure this isn't the case, but try blowing out your PC with canned air, get all the dust out of there. At the very least it'll help your computer run cooler even if it's not overheating.
ASUS 295 GTX
that should be able to run it
I mean, a 560 is all you need for gaming and 295 is better it seems http://www.hwcompare.com/11017/geforce-gtx-295-vs-geforce-gtx-560/
but lets not rule those issues out for now
did you verify the game cache? it MIGHT fix it but I'm not 100% sure. Try multiple fixes before running it so you don't damage the computer too much.
additionally, check your temps http://www.piriform.com/speccy
this is simple shit though but even dust can cause huge issues. Just to try and rule everything out.
as for drivers, try a clean uninstall and reinstall. Nvidia installers will have a clean install checkbox, unless you already have done that.
well as i mentioned, Rust is the only game that giving me hard time.
295 GTX is a very powerful card, it is 6 years old and it runs all the new games on high settings with 50+ fps.
rust on its highest settings runs at 130fps...
now about over heating, i play other games that are very demanding, for example Euro Truck Simulator 2,
when i play it my pc sounds like a jet, yet the game is stable.
same with Skyrim.
About the temperatures, CPU wont go above 60, GPU wont go above 90.
(90 is an ok temperature for the 295 GTX series).
i also tried to reinstall the game, and verifying the game files, still got the same issue.
And i ran the game with administrative right, and under win xp compatibility mode, same issue.
I also ran some testes on my PC such as the OCCT test (tests graphic load and PSU load),
the test ran for 2 hours, i thought my pc is going to explode, but it survived with no problems.
(2 hours of 100% load on GPU and PSU... scary...)
Rust is very unoptimized, so it's not surprising that it has a difficult time when compared to Skyrim or any other AAA game out there. Those games have been optimized down to the last line of code to run well on a wide variety of hardware... Rust hasn't quite gotten there yet.
It's entirely possible that Rust just doesn't agree with your hardware.
