• Radiation, seriously?

How has this not been discussed before? The rad towns in their current state are so uninviting that only people who farm barrels 24/7 get guns/blue prints. The main problem I see is that the radiation in rad towns is unbearable. I thought wearing a full rad suit(which is REALLY hard to come by) would help, but no it doesn't. Once you go into a radtown you are DEFINITELY dead. I think the old rad system is way better than this new one, and hopefully others approve too.
Off topic slightly, I've always thought it would be pretty cool to have radiation zones (say in the desert) where you HAVE to wear a rad suit like you HAVE to wear a snow jacket in the snow and you can actually live there, make a base, make radiation deformed rust babies, whatever tickles your fancy Basically, yea I'd agree. Make the rad suit work!

Just take a couple of syringes with you and you're good to go.
oh here's another great idea of mine - with the upcoming weather system. lets have localized radiation based weather, ion storm/fallout for example. you have to run away (potentially from your base) or set up an expensive lead lined fallout shelter in your base.
Remove rad from towns and replace with op rad animal mobs
I didn't play the old rad system, but I can tell you I can raid the Radtowns without a full rad suit and do just fine. It's takes a bit more out of your food and medical stores, but it's do-able. I even clean out every crate too speed up the respawns.
I want rads to be like in legacy they were way less more op anf rad armor actually did something right now we cannot even have fights in rad towns
It's really not that bad. All you need is 2-3 rad pills and water bottles. Just run right to a water source after looting.
With a rad suit, I can do in a fully spawned rad town, get all the crates, boxes, even break all barrels and garbage cans (yes they can be broken and yes they contain loot just like barrels, nobody seems to know that) all without ever using food/medical and then walk out with a very manageable amount of rad (like 20-30 tops). I can then either pop a rad pill if I happen to have one, or just live through it with a very reasonable amount of food or like 1-2 syringes. That said, I never ever use a rad suit because they cost cloth, animals are harder to come by than they used to, etc. so to me having a 1x1 near a rad town with a chest and a rad suit means I'm gonna come back to a 1x1 with nothing in it each time. So I just so like all the cool kids and lay a bag down next to each rad, hide a small crate in a bush nearby and just do sweeps in the radtowns. If I happen to stumble on something good I wanna keep (say, a rare BP I already have, or maybe guns) I'll just crawl back to my hidden crate, stash the stuff there and come back later to retrieve it. Looting the town nude with 50% health works OK.. I go in do all the crates.. if you don't mess around you have time, but you'll die on your way out. No problem. I then do another rad town.. then another.. by the time I've done the 4-5 on the server, sleeping bag for the 1st one is ready but crates have not respawned yet. I go in with my rock and hit barrels/cans... Die by the time I'm done or so. Fine.. Move on to the next one and do the same. After doing 2 rounds like that, I probably have a body or two with stuff I want to get back and maybe 1-2-3 barrels per town that I didn't get to so I go do that.. Sometimes 1-2 crates might have respawned in the meantime. I effectively totally empty all rad towns on that 3rd pass. If I got anything good off anywhere, I stash it and come get it fully geared and move the stuff to one of my bases, all of which aren't close to rad towns. I must admit it's kinda stupid and unrealistic, but it's effective. Nobody ever has guns in rad towns most of the time, so when I meet other guys they're usually nude too and won't even bother trying to kill me.. if they do, well w/e, I showed up nude and I'm waking up nude I didn't loose anything. They need to add rad towns with very low or no rad, or have varying degrees depending on where in the town you are. This would promote user interaction and clans would want to corner and control rad towns. Once I got all my bp's i never step in a rad town ever again.. there is no point... Lets add a random C4 in there once in a while to keep them interesting :)

Nobody actually goes into rad towns with gear. Although contrary to what you say having a full suit of hazmat you could stay in a rad town for like days without having any real issue its just not worth it. Also last time I checked blueprints for guns don't actually drop in barrels if that is why you are trying to say.

This would stratify players. Powerful players with suits will be able to get better loot, and will not bother weaker players in less intense rad zones. EDITED: Radiation pills are good and all, but you really shouldn't have to chug a pill a minute to stay in a rad zones. They should be a "Oh shit I am going to die, I had better take a pill" kind of thing, rather than a requirement to be in rad zones. That will make sure that both the rad suit and the rad pill have a distinct purpose. And my previous point about tiered rad zones still stands, regardless of how they do the radiation pills.
I can go into rad towns with NO Rad Gear, loot a few crates, and survive. You need to figure out what you're doing wrong. Hint: Be fast, and carry a lot of food.
There is a very simple solution: just make the radiation less in the rad towns. I can't understand why Facepunch wont try this change. Make Radtowns places like legacy where players meet and battle over.
I'd like rad towns to kill you in seconds if you're naked, and if you have a full rad suit you're completely immune. If you're wearing parts of the suit then you get partial protection and need rad pills. For the nakeds there could be a couple of towns with normal radiation and maybe even some with no radiation. As it is now I've never even used the rad suit and don't bother with the rad towns.
Literally just bring a bit of food, get to a campfire afterwards, and you're completely safe.

The intense rad zones should have better loot (I'm a zealot for adding salvage as higher tier resource) so folks will have to make some risk-reward decisions once they become established. The extreme envionments you suggest don't have to be the entire biome either; just some parts of the map that require additional gear choices.
Maybe there should be improved rad suits. Like make the current one so rad can only go up to something like 30-60 but an upgraded one blocks rad 100%.
I only ever find tuna cans and chocolate bars. Rad towns just seem useless.
The main problem I see is that the radiation in rad towns is unbearable ... once you go into a radtown you are DEFINITELY dead.
Hmm ... would have to disagree somewhat. It's true that it's hard to run the whole rad town and not die, but that's where you need strategy. Put a sleeping bag down next to the rad town, eat a couple of steak, then you have easily enough time to run around the entire rad town, bust all the barrels, collect all the loot, and make it back to your sleeping bag before dying. Then simply respawn at the bag, collect the loot from your body, and carry on your way. I have done this literally hundreds of times successfully...

I'd have radiation damage kill nakeds almost immediately, nothing like enough time to grab anything, then I'd have ANY gear given a major boost to radiation protection. It would end the suicide rad runs and encourage us to go there armed.

Can't remember when was the last time I died in a rad site other than when I'm a new spawn and running in naked.
Guys...again... If you are getting KILLED from RADIATION, you need to LEARN HOW TO LOOT RAD TOWNS PROPERLY. Many of us here can loot the radtowns with NO RAD GEAR AT ALL (either naked, or in standard clothes), and not die. I've never even considered laying a sleeping bag down. No reason for it at all. Assuming you don't run into enemies, all you need is food and a campfire ready. If you are still dying, it's your own fault. You're too slow, or you're starting with low health to begin with. That said...I *DO* like the idea of a "Level 2" rad suit that mitigates all (or nearly all) of the radiation.
here is a rad-ical idea: why not have the radiation reduce your max health instead and make rads go down slower? Let's say you lose 1 max hp for every 2 rads. So if you get up to 150 rads you will have a max health of 25 left until the rads go down, leaving you weakened and vulnerable for a long period of time.
I'd like getting sick from higher amounts of radiation. Kinda like it was when you were eating raw meat. You're puking your guts out, getting dehydrated and hungry and would need to get out of there before you start losing health.
The only problem with radtowns for me is the doorways. They should make them slightly larger since you can get stuck in the doorway

There is a reason why anti-radiation pills exist. Even then there are buildings that arent even radioactive. Even then have a friend waiting somewhere so you can run out to him, he can help you up every time you get into wounded state until the radiation poisoning wears off, then its just a matter of food or meds and you should be up to speed again. To balance that out, I would wish you could get cancer from storming radtowns and absorbing too much, or a "point of no return" dose.
