I like this idea too! it stands to reason you could build a water catcher on a flat roof area to collect water and keep it protected.
If you can place it on floors, than players could just wall it in since floors are ceilings. I admit I'd like to have mine on the roof (I always think of the scene from 28 Days Later where they have ghetto water catchers everywhere on the roof). If they did decide to allow that, they'd have to find a way to make the game know the difference between inside and outside, which might be more work than its worth. Maybe not tho, I don't know shit about coding.
Are you afraid of people stealin your water?
I placed watercatchers in grass and surrounded em with beartraps :D

Agree that collectors (and really all resource generators) should be an "in the open air" contraption. It's got realism and balance.

i did a concept on a piping system for Rust i never posted it though...maybe i should seems to be the right time for it
