I'm not sure what path Rust is taking. There are handmade weapons ( bow, pipe shotgun, revolver, ext. ) and there are modern weapons ( C4, M4, P250, grenades, ext. ). I would love for Rust to take the primitive/caveman style of game play because there are just so many modern games out there and it gets old. Tell me what you think about where Rust is heading, and what path you would want Rust to take.
Rust is going for a modern APOCALYPSE/nuclear holocaust.
Does it have to be exclusively one or the other?
Neither. I'd rather a 'Mad Max' setting or something akin to The Road.
Why not both?
Does it have to be exclusively one or the other?
Nah, whatever you think
definetly modern
It looks like it's going to be both. Which is a good thing. Technological progression in games is fun.
a longer road of technological progress will increase replay value significantly, also add a lot of fun. So why not keep as is, you progress from caveman to soldier, only with maybe more stations in between? :P balance chances have to be made and new guns need to be added on both spectrums. I dont think a "stone and bow" type of endgame will appeal to the majority of people. The competetive gunplay of rust is just great.
You should be playing a character with modern knowledge in a desolated environment. That's what's so great about this game, and makes it so cool. They shouldn't remove the airdrop or the modern tech (it needs to be rarer, not craft-able, but not gone). Playing as an actual caveman would be ridiculous, especially if you suggest that such rapid progression should still be included. You should be a survivor. Of what is up to the devs. Oh, and give the man clothes, I don't know what point Facepunch is trying to prove, but it breaks a lot of the immersion and investment I have in the Rust universe.
caveman is just a synonym for the first tech stage for me. then you go to farm red animals/radtown for 3-5 hours, get a few good airdrops and you achieved soldier status.
more guns (with varying strenghts), different ways of achieving them such as maybe hidden stashes (stalker my love), higher crafting prices or maybe no crafting at all, remove or reduce the durability or replace it with maintenance + malfunction chance (which increases with lack of former), more ways of armor, ammo types, options of tactical manuveurs maybe, camoflages etc etc
I think they are going with "Caveman style" have you seen their skins at steam? those garden or bear trap
Mad Max, Waterworld or Fallout would be the greatest way to go, in my opinion. I don't particulary like the modern machine guns, but some home-made, shitty quality variations to these weapons would be cool. Even some lost super scarce or hard to achieve "future" techs in a way of Fallout would be interesting. I saw some Rust fan concepts of electricity production etc - all super great stuff, if it was based on a long research and resource struggle. And in addition to all this, some barbaric practices and ways of life; cannibalism, taking scalps, bone furniture - and we have a exquisite game ladies and gentlemen
Still trying to look for none military only server.
Sick of people spamming the fire button firing from the hip with insane accuracy, wish they would nerf the hip firing!
?????? what is the problem with hip firing? you dont get a crosshair and you need to have really good aim to connect the shots as in non-ads'd mode there is a small circle in the middle where you circle around when you aim before the entire screen moves, making it hard to aim exactly at the center.

It hits far to much thats why it shouldnt be as accurate as it is, Im betting your one of the players that just spam it and then proceed to say how good you are in the chat after spraying some one with the overpowered hip firing.
EDIT
I dont have a small circle on my screen when not aiming.
neither do i. but if you noticed when you move your mouse in non-zoom, your gun moves around but your screen doesnt. i call this "circle". it means you never fire directly at the center of the screen (unless directly out of zoom), but on the ssmall circle around it.
as for the rest, aim is aim, hip fire is in no way OP, you still have to counter recoil and aim. personally, I still use ADS 90% of the time even in CQC. actually I also have a method where I sometimes tap both ADS and fire at the same time to ensure the bullet actually goes to the center.
Anyway it seems to me you lose a lot of close range encounters and it makes you mad because you are simply not good enough, is that correct?
i win more long range than close correct but all you hear is them spamming and still hitting like 80% of the time while hip firing.
Maybe close encounters i need to work on more but how it is there is no need for the shot gun as clearly the hip fire is much better :)
We are playing a survival game, but you should also ask yourself : Surviving against what? Nature? Hunger? Mutated life forms? Or other people who want to claim the land?
Personally I think the raiding and gun fighting aspects of the game are really awesome but the gap between a fresh spawn and a "soldier" (lets call it that..) is just too big. What can you possibly do against a kevlar m4, or a p250? And I know these are supposed to be at opposite ends of eachother in terms of progress and power but the amount of people stronger than you is just to big when you just start out. You almost have no chance whatsoever to succeed in a server that has been around for a while. Because the whole map is filled with buildings and people are all wearing heavy gear/weapons.
Something that would make a difference is player numbers per server I also think. I play on a lot of servers, and one of them is UK1 and by god its just dumb to see how much there is built there....and ofcourse too much people with powerful items. And I feel if there is a lot less people on a server, you can at least find some kind of a safe spot to start out on and become whoever you want to become.
Also I wouldn't mind making the actual surviving in terms of staying healthy much harder, because as it is you just kill some animals and you can live for days...real life days that is!
So make less players per server, and surviving harder! That way you keep the gunfighting and raiding aspects, but give starters a better shot and keeps you busy enough with staying alive :)
On a vanilla server make everything collectable, animal kills, craftable, breakable and buildable 4 times harder in all respects.
This would go a long way for the game right now IMO, but clearly wouldn't be for everyone!
the modern weapons are placeholders and will be rusty weapons later in the game, so its definitely not the modern approach
well tbh it bothers me that a fully armored athletic "predator" cannot overcome a wolf with a hatchet or pickaxe. you just cant melee fight wolfs.
^ You mean red wolves, right? Because the standard ones are a pushover with just a stone hatchet.
all wolves have heat seeking jaws :/ you just cant avoid or outmove them. they reach you = you take lotta dmg.
I vote for neither. I want it to be more of a STALKER like game. Not in the past not in the present. Almost like a fictional warfare that happened within a fairly recent time span.
I would like to see some Uranium / post apocalyptic / concept prototype weaponry high end technology to be added to the game later on in development.
Like, the devs actually adding a craftable research station where you can research prototype armor and weapons.
With Post apocalyptic concept in mind :P ... would be awesome.
not sure if i would like that, but more stalker elements are heartily welcomed. stalker SoC was such a great game.
... What can you possibly do against a kevlar m4, or a p250?...
I've killed kevlars with 2 shots from a bow. I've killed kevlars with a revolver and taken their m4. It can be done.
I was hoping we'd get a Cave-punk kind of theme, but it seems they're doing a mixture. Will be good either way, though.
I just wish ammo were more valuable than new players.
