Anyone else think customizing armor is game-critical?

It's a huge issue to me that, in the heat of combat, I can never really be sure who's who. The names above players' heads aren't reliable enough, and when everyone's wearing full kevlar I end up shooting my friends half the time.
I would be happy putting off all further updates (except for fixing exploits) just to be able to paint my clothes.
Has anyone come up with a way to deal with this issue?
I'd like to see more clothing customization, but that depends heavily on how its implemented.
I don't think its critical though.
yup , currently it is physically impossible to recognize people at a distance.
where in real life you could easily do so.
For the time being, you can have your group wear specific sets, like all kevlar with a cloth hat, or all leather with radpants, etc.

True, but I'd really rather not give up a piece of kevlar armor. Hitpoints are hitpoints, even if it is just a hat.
My outfit of choice as a server admin is full kevlar minus the pants
I also run a mod that sets censorship off by default.
I'm pretty unmistakable.
When you see some one that you dont know who it is say "Jump Check" then all of your friends will jump and you will know. this is how i deal with it.

We do jump checks, but it's not really practical in a battle.
Another option could be a signal. Like flashing a laser light 3 times or something to show you are friendly. or just using chat/voip
It's 100% critical just as a weapon holster is. When you're in a group battle, you can't realistically do a "jump" check or "flashlight" check. Implementation of customization (at the very least, a ton more clothing and accessory items) should take precedence over their other "to do" list items on Trello.
Because we definitely need hot pink clothes before we have a complete game
Definetly, id recommend reading up this thread and keep talking there about it. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1352512
Other players should be able to steal your special gang uniform.
I'd like to be able to dye clothes different colours so that I had an outfit suitable for all occasions.
I'd like a hat slot. With lots of different hats that that we can craft that are purely cosmetic.
Also, I'd like there to be some way to see someone's name from farther away.
SOME sort of differentiation, be it cosmetic or a name awareness thing, is necessary.
Honestly, for anyone who played the game Darkfall... you know how hard it is to fight large groups against large groups. Things that helped: weapons, armor types, racial classes.
Rust will have to figure it out on their end, how is one person or one group of people going to identify themselves? What ramifications arise from allowing that? Guilds, squads, teamed building projects, cities, then armies?
Does Rust want that? Can the servers support it?

Then deal with it :) Otherwise find a way to coordinate, like someone said - jump check - torch check. flashlight check. There are ways to do it, get creative.
Well maybe until customizations come in the next best thing is to be able to mark various characters with an icon over their heads noting them as either hostile or friendly. This marker farther than names, but not farther than say 50m. At a certain distance in real life it would be difficult to properly identify and you need to get close.
This would also be good for those not in your group but have a specific history with.
I find the need for painting/dying clothes really good for rust in the future because then what if the person I was playing with was somebody I just met and we didn't have any voice chat methods like teamspeak. This is why I would like to so I can have the upper hand just in case I see them first and get the upper hand.
It'd be cool if we could wear cosmetic clothes over kevlar armor.
aslong as this is possible.
lets say you have red clothing as your armor with a skull in center and a 8 on the back as a sign of your clan m8s, if somone kills one of you guys he can then take that armor Place research kit then disguise himself as one of your guys.
and it should be expensive as hell to change color on your gear so you cant just switch just becuse you knew one got killed and abuse it.
Becuse this makes stealthy sneaky play possible wich would be hella fun, imagine if they add lockpicking into this game, where you can lockpick, takes long time thou but you get a minigame like in fallout and other action RPGs with the bobbypins you know.
but it takes longer time than that.
if he could sneak Close and get inside(ofcs later on some doors/door attachment should maybe make it impossible to picklock it some might be possible but if you fail alarm Actives, like attachment to the door alarm.
There is so many possiblities within this game its just nuts :D

I'm not sure what you said exactly, but this bit right here would be really interesting.
Having specific clan gear that only registered members of your in-game clan are able to craft without kits would be great, and then anyone who loots your gear has to spend research kits to craft it (1 time use, possibly).
I WANT TO PAINT MY FACE WITH THE BLOOD OF THE FALLEN
or like, customization or whatever
if this was added
picture this: There's a large group/clan on a server, all of them where specific combination of colors, now what if someone used a combination of colors and it was the same as your friend?
or what if everyone on your team wears green and and u see a guy thats wearing green but wasn't your friend?
this idea will only make the game more confusing playing with friends
I never understood why none of the big survival games never added this particular thing
You grab your cloth or kevlar items and apply some kind of dye to it (leaves for green, animal blood for red, mix both for purple, charcoal for black, etcetera) and now it's a different color and you get that little bit of customization that we all love, arguably some camouflage (by wearing dark colors at night or green during the day or whatever) and your group can know who's who while still giving stalkers and lonewolves the opportunity to make a set of clothing that's the same color as your group's, and letting them get close enough to take you out and shit. Hell if you removed the nametags, you could even sneak into a base by learning what their VOIP password is or what their "tell" is (example, an entire group agrees to jump once when getting close to a door so the guard opens it, you learn that and use that to your advantage)
Clothing customization would be pretty cool and it's a completely realistic thing to do. I don't think it's a priority but it would definitely be a cool feature to see and something that encourages teaming up with random people and using in-universe ways to tell eachother apart instead of setting up a teamspeak server and asking "who is this I'm aiming at" on that
Sounds like a handy feature, but game critical I absolutely can not agree with. The things I feel are game critical are the balance of offense vs defense. Last I checked they're currently working on adding more ways for people to defend their base.
Second is admin commands. I can't even begin to tell you how frustrating it is to load up 6 different commands just to have an accused hacker hear my foot steps or see my name within seconds of teleporting to them. It's ridiculous we haven't been given proper tools to combat the waves of hackers we get every single day. Security updates will never fix this entirely as proven by every other online game ever made.
Your uniformed red orange stripped armor won't do you much good vs the aim botter that just super jumped to the top of a mountain with your friends M4.

Yes i wrote bad dyslexia plus tired not a very good combination, what i mean is clan can create clangear. wich can be obtained if you kill a member take his gear then use researchkit on it you can use it yourself(otherwise you cant) ofc it should not be on the armor but like a new armor slot, factionslot or somthing.
and you can then researchkit it to Craft that then you can look like diffrent factions, but factions should be able to fix this, however it should be expensive but not to expensive otherwise Clans would just change their "item" for every member in the clan everytime one gets killed.

Again, I'm talking about in the middle of a battle. You can't coordinate when everyone's in a moshpit of shotguns shooting at each other.
Every multiplayer game allows people to customize their character to some degree, and it wouldn't be that hard to implement either.
