What frames do you think this laptop will get on low?

Since Christmas is rolling around, I decided to pick out a new laptop.
I was wondering at what frames would this laptop run Rust on?
Even on low. If anyone has any idea, that would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the laptop:

Crap. That CPU is a dual-core 2.2GHz CPU in Intel's ultra-low power line. That's not a gaming laptop by any means. There's a reason it's priced how it is.
It'll do fine for web browsing, YouTube, etc., but I wouldn't buy that for any gaming more intense than Bejeweled.

If it gets this on normal on Tomb Raider??? I think you are mistaken.
This laptop has a intel i5 cpu in it.
It also has a dedicated graphics card with a NVIDIA Geforce 940 M in it.
If it runs Tomb Raider on normal at this, what do you think it'll run Rust on low?
Tomb Raider is a finished, optimized, released game.
Rust is an unoptimized alpha.
The two are not comparable.
It's an Intel i5 CPU but it's only dual-core and ultra-low power. That's not a gaming CPU in the least. The 940M is not the problem here.

Okay but you said I wouldn't be able to run anything more intense than bejeweled, yet i'm pretty sure Tomb Raider is a bit more intense than bejeweled.
What is your system specs, and what frames do you get in Rust. Maybe I can compare.
I have a desktop, it's completely different from the laptop so comparisons are pointless.
Buy it if you want, but understand that CPUs from Intel's U-line aren't gaming-oriented hardware. They can do it, but, it's not optimal.
There's a reason that laptop costs less than top-end video cards.
Plus, you need to look at that Tomb Raider screenshot closely. The game's resolution is 1366x768 but the laptop's native resolution is 1920x1080. So, sure, if you turn Tomb Raider down to minimums like that it's playable. Is this what you want for a baseline when you buy this laptop? Because it's only going to fall further behind as technology marches on.
Hold up:
Here's the actual framerates.

I'm sure it will run CS:GO at least on high.
At what resolutions? Because if you're playing in 720p to get >40fps on a laptop that's capable of 1080p, you're already making compromises for inferior hardware.
That's at 1080p

Tomb Raider at 68.3 is not running at 1080p, it's detailed right there.
Why do people insist on trying to play games on a laptop! Save your money and buy a decent desktop to game with and don't give me the I travel BS if you travelling that much your far to busy to bother gaming anyway

If I could I would, but in my situation I can't. It's my situation, and seriously, if I could I would.
Just for the record, my main computer is a 3 year old computer I built about when the I7's were released and I actually bought one of the low ball I5's back then and I'm still running it to this day. I upgraded ram to 16 gb and the video card to a 970 recently and I can play Rust maxed out with zero problem.
The processor arms race is over, they are just adding cores and cache now, both of which do little to nothing for gaming, it's all buzz no substance.
That comp will run Rust just fine bro, don't worry about it. Might not be able to max it because of the low video card memory, but you'll definitely be able to play it at about mid-quality settings.

What if I buy this with the computer?

You can't upgrade video card memory with system ram sticks. The video card has its own discrete memory (except for Intel HD Graphics/other integrated GPUs which instead steal from system memory--in that specific sense, you're actually right, but we don't even want to be using the Intel HD for playing Rust when there's a 940M or other separate card on-board).

:speechless:
Bottom line, unless you literally cannot do any better, I don't think you'll get satisfactory performance from this laptop for more than maybe a year, at best, before it starts to lag behind too badly to keep up with games coming out. Even a desktop would likely give you at least a bit better performance, unless it's critical to you that you be able to take your computer with you. But, it'll still launch Rust, you'll just have to turn things down.
If you're okay with making lots of compromises, go for it, just don't expect too much. I know how it is not being able to afford the computer you want and having to settle with what you can afford.
I just wanted a laptop that'll be good for some light gaming, and for college.
Also what is that image? This is all I see...

But anyway it's in the benchmark screenshot you yourself posted - 1366 x 768 is the resolution the game is running at - which is slightly off 720p, and not close to 1080p. That gets 68.3fps.
The laptop he shows in the first post has a super slow 5400 rpm HD that's not going to help at all. The specs listed under that tomb raider benchmark included a solid state drive! Huge difference there

Yeah imgur is blocked on here, but for some reason facepunch isn't.

Wait so an ssd will make it faster?
Will that affect the performance at all?
A solid state drive does make it run faster the transfer rates for caching out to the drive or loading info from the cached files is far faster. I remember back when the first barracuda drives came out at 10k rpm made a difference for sure
Having a 5600rpm drive instead of an SSD will increase loading times significantly. Having that kind-of-weak CPU is going to increase loading times and drag on performance to a varying degree depending on the program/game you're running.
If the 940M qualifies it as a gaming laptop, it's a low-end gaming laptop. I assure you that you will not be able to achieve 68.3fps in Tomb Raider at medium at 1080p; you might get it at 1366x768 at medium if there isn't much loading from disk in the scene (due to not having the high performance of an SSD).

Should I instead get this laptop because of the ram?

The original one only had a measly 2 GB of ram while this one has 8GB.
Dude, just keep saving for something better than this crap laptop. Once you hit 800+ you open up to some good options.

I would. I would really want to save up and buy the parts for a sweet ass 600 dollar monster, which could run anything, but I can't. I really would. I will some day. But for now, I need a laptop.

look, just keep in mind the power of the laptop you get at $600 is going to be a whole heap less than the power of a desktop at the same price. i would suggest 3 things. Decent cpu, for me that's an intel i7 with at least 3.0ghz. at least 8gb of decent speed ram. and not a laptop with just integrated graphics; make sure it has a nvidia/amd gpu.
my experience; don't bother with MSI computers in general, they are shitty computers made in a basement. acer aspire tends to be decent price for what you get. and unless you need it to be really mobile, get one with decent airflow (read avoid super compact laptops since they overheat like buggery).
as everyone here has said, don't expect the same performance out of a laptop. at all.
This things going to become outdated in like a year
[editline]8th November 2015[/editline]
infact it already is
That cpu is fine, it even has better single thread power @2.2Ghz vs my phenom 2 @3.4Ghz ☺
Not many games utilize those extra cores all that well. Still if i was you i would look for 4 core solution
Ok i took better look at that laptop
Dont buy acer.
Forget laptops with ancient 5400rpm hdds, you can have all the cpu and ram power in the world but that hdd wont give you mercy, given some time it renders your system obsolete. Slow hdds have been bottlenecks for a long time now, it should be criminal to sell things like this.

What if I buy an external hard drive, or ssd that is faster?
Also why not acer? I think they are a good laptop company.

Any suggestions on a better laptop for under 600 dollars?
A desktop cannot be compared to a laptop ... trust me
Used to be true. Not true anymore. I have a laptop with similar specs to my desktop and i get the same performance in all games on both. I've been building computers for 25 years now, this ain't just "mr know it all" pretention.
One thing I will say though, the laptop NEEDS to be plugged and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner while gaming. So yeah desktop wins but performance wise there is little to no diff.
