I know this is an alpha, I know it's early days but what I would like is more food (ie: animals). Trying to play on the Australia test server, and nearly every time I die of hunger, unless I get lucky and don't get killed by another player.
Now this isn't for lack of trying, I set out and walk hundreds of metres not to find a single animal. So I keep running along the landscape, change direction towards the coast and never find any food. You have to keep your base in view otherwise all the mountains look pretty similar and it's difficult to get back to your shelter.
Seems like most of the animals are close to the coast and in small, concentrated pockets. Because every time I set out, it's very rare that I find any food. And not just me, but multiple players as well. Sometimes I will see a person and they will be friendly so won't attack me, but they suddenly drop dead right in front of me.
Looking through their corpse, I find that they are in the same position as me, with only their rock, medkit and torch and nothing else.
There is 160+ players on the Australia test server and it seems like food is incredibly rare. Players are either starving to death right in front of me, or trading food for cloth or resources because there is just no animals.
Not just on one life, but multiple lives, I respawn with nothing and build a shelter with a campfire and set out to find some food. Then die because I've travelled a lot and not found any food.
I'm trying to stay alive, but I honestly can't when there is no food, or all the food is being held by a small amount of players who use it to trade because they've farmed it all and there's just not enough left for everyone else.

I prefer to play on the official server, so that's not a solution as I'm trying to test out the game. It's designed to be a large test, since the player limit is 256.
Also, it's the only official base game server where I get a decent ping. Playing on community servers is nowhere near as fun since you get a "starter kit" that gives you food, sleeping bag, instacraft, etc.
It diminishes the accomplishment you feel when you actually succeed, because items are handed to
you or made much easier by the inclusion of easier mechanics.
Don't want to feel like I'm playing a "dumbed down" version because it's just so much easier than what the offical base game would be like, it's meant to be hard but there is just not enough food to go around. Whether I spawn in the mountains or on the coast or even in the middle of the woods, it is extremely hard to impossible to find food.
Why even create such a large test server then?, if there was more food to go around, respawning would be survivable. As it is though, you just die since there is no food and people are greedy beyond belief.
