Since the most recent update rust has become unplayable for me. It keeps crashing saying that my graphics hardware has been stopped responding and has recovered then once i start the game up again it freezes again instantly and my monitor goes to sleep causing me to have to do a forced restart. Has anyone else been having this problem?
My specs are: CPU - I5 6500
GPU - AMD R9 380 4gh ddr5 (drivers fully up to date)
8GB RAM
I am only getting this problem with rust and since the last update any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I can't be of any help but I'm experiencing exactly the same issue with the same graphics card. I'm not sure whether this is due to the release of the update for Rust or the recent update for our drivers causing the issue.
same here, crashes with r9 380
Usualy when the driver crashes it's because the GPU has overheated or the GPU has been overclocked to much (not that i am saying any of you did overclock) or just because of a poor driver release by AMD.
Looking at the last few driver releases it seems they are having issues with the R9 380 and one of the issues is down to the fan not working right so they are saying to manually adjust the fan settings.
AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.4.1
Known Issues
A small subset of AMD Radeon™ R9 380 users may be experiencing slower than expected fan speeds. A work around is to raise your fan speeds through AMD Overdrive in Radeon™ Settings manually to a desired amount. <<<< They have been having this problem for a while now and other AMD cards were also having fan issues a few drivers back.
I tried setting my fan speed to 100% using MSI afterburner and managed to play for a hour insted of 1 minute but it still crashed on me.
Same gpu here.
Driver version 16.3.2, everything works fine.
Also my max temp on full load is 65 degrees while playing rust. I capped my fps to 70.
EDIT:
Known issues with 16.4.1 (beta driver):

EDIT2: Let me know if you are interested in my afterburner custom fan values.
Sure man I will try anything at this stage. Every time I log onto steam I just sit there looking at rust wishing I could play it again and it probably doesn't help that I sit in team speak listening to the group I am suppose to be the head of. A leader can't lead when he can't even play!
Same here with same graphics card. I didn't have problems until Rust updated and I've tried with newest and previous set of drivers and no love. Also there was a windows update recently and I did a system restore to before it and tried that, which seeeeeeemed to work for a while, but alas. Temp doesn't get above 61C. This really sucks.
First thing I would do is rolling back to 16.3.2. Try that first.
Already tried this and it never worked i am convinced it is a problem with rust as my GPU and all the other parts in my rig are for that matter are only 4 months old.
Am currently at work, I post back later.
So I done the update and hoped my rust would be working for me now but no I was wrong it still doesn't it crashes after about 1 minute. facepunch what the hell did you guys do that fucked the game for many payers using R9 380's after last weeks update? This should should not be happening.
Same problem! ... And i've tried every setting i could in my drivers.. This crashing is making the game unplayable for me.. As i often crash while in combat.... its SO frustrating, And now i am in a queue!
I don't manage to even get into combat. Yesterday after the newest update u spent 5 minutes in a queue then got on the server ran up to a tree to hit it with my rock and my monitor went black and said it was going to sleep. This problem has now been plaguing me for 8 days and it's really pissing me off.
i5 6600k
Radeon 380 nitro
8 gig 2400hz ddr4
16.4.1 driver ( 16.3.2 did crash aswell)
Monitor goes to sleep after 10 sec to 10 min of gaming time. ONLY in rust.
Been like this for two weeks or more. Cant play the game. Where looking forward to this update. Now i will most likely just uninstall because its taking to long to fix this issue.
I am using: I5 6500
Radon R9 380 4Gb
8 GB RAM 2400hz ddr4
This problem is getting annoying as hell, i am sitting in TeamSpeak listening to my group and its driving me mad but I need to keep up to date with what is going on.
I have ordered 16GB corsair memory, hoping that will fix the issue if not I will just have to continue throwing money at the problem which is a bit shit as my rig is only 4 months old.
Same problem!!
I guess all r9 gpu series cant play rust normally.
Why it didnt fix yet?
Facepunch???
So are all you guys with the R9 380 getting a the your your amd display driver crashed and succesfully recovered error or just going to black screen..I'm now going to black screen 90% of the time.. My temps are never going above 55 on rust on the GPU
Some times I get the drivers have stopped responding and others I just get black screen and display going to sleep forcing me to do a forced restart. This shit is ridiculous and needs to be fixed soon or I can see people abandoning rust.

yup i've had this off an on since I got the R9 380, the last 2 weeks, longest i've been able to play rust for was a bout 30 mins..its just hard to determine if its Rust side or AMD side..card is running fine on every other game I play, including early access games like ark. hope its sorted soon.
I have the R9 380 as well, but I have been running the old drives (16.3.2) with not too many problems. I get a graphical glitch every now and then, but its nothing terrible. One crash after about 4 hours of playing isn't too bad compared to what you are apparently going through.
However, I just updated to the new drivers now (before I saw this thread) so i'll post back and let you know if its for sure THAT specific driver version, if I can actually get the game running again >.<

so after doing everything bar buying a new GPU nothing worked..EXCEPT! playing rust in DX9...was able to play for 2 hours with no crashes and only just got off because its 3am.. Dunno if they helps narrow the issue down due to a driver issue with DX12 or not but launching rust in DX9 seems to work for me at least
Yup dx9 also works fine for me finally I can play rust again happy days!
I had this error for the first time yesterday after around three hours, restarted my system, played for another three hours and went to bed after that. Dunno why I don't get constant problems like you guys.
Same error, same card..
Play in dx9 and it will run fine. Not the best way to play rust on a £180 GPU but at least the game will run fine and doesn't look that bad.
