I decided to post this idea and maybe just maybe they might make it real.
You know how we have blueprints to make items we learn these and then we can make the item.
We'll here is my idea a" floor plan ".
Some people put a lot of hard work into a base. Sometimes it doesn't get done until the next wipe comes. With all of the raiding, hunting, farming, and building we have to do and I under stand why we have these wipes too, I don't mind them at all. But this is where the " floor plan " come into play. You made an awesome base but it going to get wiped. With the floor plan you can copy just the building layout (no chest, locks, cupboards, external walls, pictures, quarries and so on). Then comes the wipe your base is gone but you have your floor plan still you gather the mats to start building. Lets say you got enough wood and stone that would have turned your old base into stone. You use your floor plan and some time goes by (lets say 1 or 2 seconds for each floor or wall or something like that) and poof you base is built! But what happens if some come after you wile it is building? It stops you run and hide or get killed but the parts you waited on are built. If killed of course you'll need to get more mats then you click on your floor plan again and it will start building from the place it left off.
I just thought this idea might make it easier and faster to build bases that you have built and liked and there should be a cap on learning floor plans say 2 or 3. You cant learn someone else's base floor plans my thought is that a cupboard is used or something along those lines.
This will also help admins that want to make towns and shops to make them faster and easier.
i dont think that it would work out that well. Why wouldn't you just build again with the materials. Its safer like that. For example: You are running around with loads of materials when you could of just started building the first floor and made kind of a temporary shelter. Idk. It is how I think (then again you can just make a small shack to store your items). But anyways it just my preference.
boring and unnecessary
just go along with the flow and build as it goes, more interesting than doing the same pattern over and over again
you will find new ideas that way as well
I think the majority of people build to the situation, which is imo the best approach. With rapid changes in the way building mechanics work and changes to the way raiding is conducted and even more simply the new place you want to build your base after a map wipe...
A prefab design is really not a good idea imo.

its an absurd idea coming from someone that probably forgot his prior base design. come up with something new I would suggest.
This same idea just occurred to me today too. But reading the responses I agree with these folks, it's best to rebuild each time.
Also I don't think it's feasible with map changes since the foundation is specific to where you built, and the map is all procedurally generated, so it would need some kind of "first floor preview/fitting tool" like when you place a foundation but for 20 pieces, which could be complicated to build.
Depending on how far you were standing from the base while this automatic floorplan based building robot is running would affect a core mechanic of Rust which is that, when you see a wall go up, you know someone is standing right next to it and you know right where to point the shooty things.
The biggest problem however would likely be the fact that with each wipe, bases would get bigger, and bigger, and bigger until they were just ridiculous.
There's several Rust 2D/3D build apps out there, so I would recommend using them for a base layout that you can build ingame.
