Do i need to manually install game updates or do they download automatically? I was playing on a community server last night and the "door passcode" option wasnt available?

The game should automatically update at some point when you open Steam. As for door codes, hold E near a door you own and you should get the option to lock, unlock and set a code on said door.
Some Rust++ mod servers had a defunct door passcode function - but I believe they released an update to the mod to fix that.
