I see this quite often in the server console. Does this simply mean that the player was killed by an unknown entity?
Or an environmental factor like cold/hunger?
That message comes when a player is killed by animal (bear/wolf), whether is also comes from starving/cold I'm not sure of, but my guess would be it give the same announcement.

But if "killed by unknown" means killed by an animal... why do I also see "Player X was killed by autospawn/animals/wolf (wolf)" all the time?
Suicide does that.
