• The current build system

I thinking the current Rust build system needs scrapping or some drastic changes. Defensive building will always win over creativeness in building design unfortunately. I do not have the answer to this but my preferred method of building is what the developers of '7 days to die' have created and that is using smaller blocks. Unusual and creative designs with this system are limitless in my opinion and still supports a solid defence.
This is not a voxel game, what you want will never be in this game.
I miss the days when you had more freedom in building and raiding0. Unimaginative whiners bitched and complained that bases are too hard to raid. Garry dumbed down building to make raiding easier. Unimaginative whiners bitched and complained that they were getting raided too much, Garry dumbed down building to make building easier and raiding harder. Rinse and repeat.

That I will disagree with. The Legacy building system was horrible IMO. But then again, I started on the new Rust and went back to Legacy. I was spoiled by the new system.

Barricades were brought by raiders to get cover on large grassy areas, and could be placed as a defensive means by the one being raided. you never had to look for a broken jukebox to auth at, you had to look for loops in security, jump pillars, place c4 while falling, whatever it took to breach. I have had my unraidable bases raided plenty of times, and i have raided some aswell. The creative and persistent players always won Sandbox games great games that are dumbed down to please online SIMS players, not so much
the current build system is broken :v: there are various things that are completely overpowered, thankfully not too popular at the moment. expecting that to change tho.. :(
This is not a voxel game, what you want will never be in this game.
I'm not suggesting it becomes a voxel based system, but reducing the size of everything by half would allow more creativity in build design I believe. But as it stands the build system is not only broken but flawed for me.

Everyone had a stilt base that could only be entered by suiciding and had 3+ layers of pillar foundations around it. It was either that or empty husks from people that quit after getting raided. The indestructible foundations, pillars, and floors definitely had to go.
The indestructible foundations, pillars, and floors definitely had to go.
This i agree with though

There wasn't much in terms of building creativity in Legacy. There was basically 1 style of base to build with some minor variations. You either built that way, or you were easily raided with little effort. There have been some truly spectacular builds in the new Rust though. The flexibility of the new building system is light years ahead. Although it's regressing now with the removal of some key parts and the reliance on those stupid outer walls as defense.

Ability to layer them in tight: Ruins the need for other defences.
Agreed. I don't disagree with the outer walls in principal. They're actually quite useful, especially for protecting quarries and formerly pump jacks from snatch and grab thieves. It's just that with them and they way they're typically used, you can build a 2 x 2 x 2 shack as your base and have it perfectly safe for the most part. Or at least it will require a disproportionate amount of resources to get into it vs the returns from the raid.
I guess it would be nice if they just added home traps already. It would be be better than just make walls stronger or weaker
I dunno while I realize Garrys point about pillars shouldn't be in the corners because they really don't need to be there, its still fricken annoying when im trying to runn down a 1x1 corridor :P
