has anyone had the same idea, because I'm "okay" with most of the guns ad fantastic with a bow, so maybe somehtnig that does more damage, is harder to craft, has some mods to it like the guns do (like a regular compound bow), and shoots further? I dont knnow you guys tell me what you think.
PS: if were going to have new bows we should probably have new arrow, now im not saying that it would be a good idea to not launch the bow without the ew arrows, im just saying that it would be cooler and something that Minecraft nor DayZ has done.
wow didnt expect to get replied this quickly from anyone. thats pretty cool but one of the main reasons i like this idea is because of the new bow not as much for the arrows though, but this is at leas a start to something that happens in the future.
PS: is this actually something that a developer has seen/replied to?
IIRC the bow already does more damage than practically anything except maybe the bolt action, so even more damage would be a bit over the top.
But what you could add with a compound bow would be a sight. And maybe faster draw speed.
I hope they add crossbows. Ide much rather have silent accurate weapon for zombies and animals then a gun. Plus I dont feel like im waisting a tun of resources using arrows.

im not a huge crossbow fan just because how much more effective a compound bow would be, the only real reason why people buy crossbows is because of the draw weight and power of the thing but it would be horrible in a fire fight or even against a fast zombie, if we ever see one again. and the arrow thing, once you start getting into the game the more wood and stone you will com across, their just beginning items for now though, which is why the compound bow idea makes allot of sense

wow really, shit, well i guess draw speed would be he next best thing, but i still like the idea of a re-textured bow, and the mods, and the arrows that they would hopefully add in...
Compound bows would be cool, but I don't think they should increase the damage arrows do. In real life, the primary advantage of a compound bow is that once you fully draw it, the pulleys kick in and hold a lot of the force of the limbs for you. This makes it so that you don't have to be constantly fighting with the strain, therefore so you can hold it for longer and aim easier. The reason that compound bows are often stronger than recurve bows is that you are able to the limbs stiffer (hence a more powerful shot) and still be able to aim the shot because of the pulleys supporting a lot of the weight. So if compound bows were added into Rust, their advantage over a normal bow is that they should be able to be held for longer without denocking the arrow.
Another suggestion that I think would be cool is different arrow heads that you can craft and put onto arrows. I know that Facepunch has a card up on their Trello for new arrowheads, but it's a little vague and I wanna make the suggestions anyway. An arrow with a broad-head tip is designed to open up a large wound and cause more damage to the flesh, as well as cause massive amounts of bleeding. This would cause more damage to both unarmored players, as well as players with cloth or rad armor. It wouldn't do as much damage to a player with Kevlar or leather, though, because the wide area of the broad-head causes drag and would get stopped by the material. A bodkin arrow on the other hand, which is similar to a metal spike on the end of an arrow, is often used in games for piercing through armor and puncturing organs (in reality it was probably used to reduce cost and for mass production). In Rust, the bodkin would ignore a lot of a player's Kevlar or leather armor, dealing a good amount of damage, but still not as much as a broad-head would have if it had hit them with another type of armor. A bodkin also wouldn't cause as much bleeding over time as the broad-head would.
A couple other arrow heads would be cool too. Maybe a whistling arrow head like the ancient Japanese used to use for signalling. Perhaps it would attract some of the mutated animals to it? Or perhaps poison tipped arrows that deal damage over time? So many exciting things that they could add!
Rad armor is made of leather though...

Great points, just one thing in your last paragraph you said something about a arrow that attracts rad animals (which would be cool for zombies too, if we had any) but they plan to replace them soon so good idea but not possible. Overall though great suggestions and i would love to see really any of this in game.
I think that having attachments to the new compound bow would be nice. Maybe even a new attachment like a bigger wheel so you can pull the bow back farther with a stronger hit and a farther shot.
how the fuck did you find this to necro
