Will I get a performance boost if I upgrade ram from 4gb to 8gb

I use 4gb of DDR3 1600. I rum the game on the second highest setting with AA low. Do you think if I upgrade my ram I will see a performance boost for the game. Id like to run max textures and I know some games require more ram for that.
Games typically rely more on the RAM of the GPU rather than the system's RAM. You would need to see how much RAM your current GPU has, and then if it's worth shelling out $200 or more for a better one.
My gpu is a gtx 660 2gb
I've tested this myself (though 4Gb to 10Gb), and it didn't make too much of a difference.
The only noticable 'thing' I felt was the occasianal 2 second FPS drop as the memory gets dumped to the HDD
well you'll certainly be able to open up one more tab of Chrome, and maybe even Deluge?
2gb will generally get you to medium texture settings, such as 8x Anisotropic Filtering and medium texture quality. New Gen games are getting closer and closer to me to a 4gb minimum, so if you ever plan on getting other games that will come out in the future and want them to look good, a better GPU is what you'll need.
Yeah but I'm talking about this game specifically. I wouldn't consider this game to have the current gen graphics. It doesn't even say on steam what the minimum gpu is but it say it recommens 8 gb of ram so I'm wondering what the increase of ram will effect.
Just keep in mind that you will never have a negative effect when adding more RAM - So if you can afford it, do it

It may speed up your FPS, but I would not bet that you can run on the highest graphics settings.
But for Rust in it's current state - having 8 GM of Ram should help performance a lot. I am guessing it would be better. It sounds like Rust runs pretty well for you now on the settings you mentioned. You should get something out of having 8 GB ram.
With all settings on Max (every slider to the fullest)
I'm a little under 9GB Use.

are you still using 4 gb of ram on 2015? ahahahaha

That's a bit shallow of you. Not everyone can afford upgrades, and some people don't believe the boost is linear with the price (Which is it not).
This is particularly why OP is asking.
The real issue is Rust should run fine with 8 GB of Ram. They should eventually get to this point. It would be ridiculous for Rust to require 16 or 12 GB of ram.
They should even get a point where someone with 4 GB can run it fine on low settings IMO.

in 2015.
@op; upgrading is worthwhile in general; rust specifically is in a state that seems to need at least 8gb ram and a semi decent gpu to run at anything less than min graphics and more than 10-20 fps. this will improve as they get to the stage that they can clean it up a bit, but they aren't there yet.
no insult intended, but i'm kind of surprised you are able to run it at all with just 4bg; most people seem to end up with "out of memory" errors with that much ram.
4gb is low. Will going to 8 help Rust, probably but not necessarily. The os usually does a descent job of swapping out unused ram, these swaps are what will lag you but generally speaking 4gb should be enough.not to get too much swap during gameplay. 4gig is what nowadays anyway, 50$?

I'm surprised people are still rocking 4 GB. The extra elbow room of 8 GB is going to help system responsiveness overall, not to mention the performance boost to Rust itself. Go for 8, OP. If not 16.

Well I got 24 gb for around $80, RAM certainly isn't a very expensive component, but I hope people could afford at least that.
Typically a RAM upgrade won't actually give you a big FPS boost, but it will help speed up load times, and also give your games much more stability. So you should see less crashing with an upgrade. 8 GB is a pretty good place to sit at currently, going higher would be inefficient, especially if you have other areas you can upgrade too.
I recently made this exact upgrade and it didn't change much for me. Basically just made tabbing out quicker which is nice.
