So, I have 107 hours in Rust. I love playing it. I've been reading these forums for awhile now [I just made an account to post this sorry if it's suspicious] I've read all those false vac ban threads. I just started using Mumble and I've played with it for a bit and some people said that overlays can cause a VAC ban to occur. Just a few days ago a server I played on got really laggy [Rubberbanding, etc.] And I de-synced. I didn't kill anyone [idk if VAC uses that info at all] I could walk around but the server wasn't detecting I was doing stuff like I would hit a resource node and nothing happened and animals didn't respond to me, but I could write in chat. I heard that Steam sends out VAC bans in waves and I was just wondering if any of that could result in one in the next ban wave? I'm probably making a big deal about nothing lol.. My Steam. EDIT: I've also been kicked for violation because of doors but I guess that's common.
You will NOT get banned for those kind of overlay and you will NOT get banned for desync/bug/crash etc.
Mumble, teamspeak, raidcall, razer comms will NOT get you banned no matter how many people tell you that they got banned because of this. They are mostly lying and trying to get some excuse.
People tend to confuse voice comms overlay with overlays from hacking tools. They are NOT the same thing.
IF in a paralel universe valve mess up and do a false positive like this they would most likely ban thousands of players instead of 1 guy here and there.
Yeah, what he said. A standard overlay will not get you banned.
If it adds a crosshair there's a possibility though.

Thanks for the quick response! I just had a little thought and it bugged the hell out of me.

Those overlays tends to come in with those hack tools. Poeple think that if they download those kind of hacks and just use the overlay they wont get banned.
Just dont download/run any hacks with the game and you will be fine. Really dont worry.

I don't think you can add a crosshair to Mumble. Anyway though, thanks for easing my mind.
i personally wouldn't risk an overlay, but just communications won't be a problem. all these "false ban" threads are just cheaters who are butthurt they got what they deserved. 90% of them are proven in thread either by video or by SS of the person on a cheating website saying they purchased it and how do they use it. whatever you do, just, don't, cheat.
