RUST BASICS & ADVANCED GUIDE •Rust is a survival FPS with red animals (EX ZOMBIES) and people.....so get used to dying, not only once, but dying a lot and loosing everything, everytime. Embrace the concept and only then you can enjoy the game :3 THIS IS MY FIRST TIME / HOURS PLAYING
So, you log in a server, naked, with a rock, a torch and 2 bandages, now what? Welcome to RUST!
I will split this section in environment description, player, and other section for you to understand it better and then jumping to how to start. -ENVIRONMENT: -Rust is located in a Peninsula, so you have a coast and mountains in the back. In the following link you will find the map of rust, get used to it.MAP THERE IS NO MAP IN GAME SO LEARN HOW TO POSITION YOURSELF. -LANDMARKS (places that you can observe and figure your position based on that) -RAD TOWNS: 3 of them. There are red animals and crates/boxes with loot that spawn every 5 min. -One with the road passing trough. -One next to the Hangar. -One surrounded by plains and nothing else. -HANGAR: Set of 3 o 5 buildings with a big Hangar in a field. There are red animals and crates/boxes with loot that spawn every 5 min.. In this place the road makes a curve. -TANKS: they are next to the road. Two big gas tanks surrounded by a lot of red animals. -DAY / NIGHT: There is a day night system in rust, you have 45 minutes of Day and 15 minutes of Night. Refer to GAMMA FIX to see trough the night. -RESOURCES: Are only found in valleys. You will not find anything in mountains. Refer to valleys in the RUST MAP. You can find resources from red animals and crates but there is no comparison to gather them. -NPC (RED Animals & Animals) -RED ANIMALS(EX ZOMBIES): Blueprints and other lootable stuff. -Red Wolf: Fast but low HP. 2 ARROWS -Red Bear: Fatty but slower of the two NPC. 3/4 ARROWS -ANIMALS: Needed for food and cloth mainly. Located only in valleys. -PIGS(Passive): Your main target. Kill 2/3 to craft a sleeping bag. 2 ARROWS -DEERS(Passive): Only killable if you have a ranged weapon, dont bother running with a melee, you will never hit it. As soon as you have the Hunter Bow this is your target. 2 ARROWS -WOLFS(Aggresive): Your worst nightmare as a naked guy. Avoid at all cost unless you have a ranged weapon. 2 ARROWS -BEARS(Aggresive): Your second worst nightmare as a naked guy. Avoid at all cost unless you have a ranged weapon. 4 ARROWS -PLAYER: -HEALTH If it reachs 0 you die. Eat food/medkits to restore a minimal amount. Stand by a campfire and you will gain HP again faster. -HUNGER: If you reach 0 you will start loosing HP by 2 o 4 per tick. If you sit in a campfire and are low on food, the COMFORT status will slow the HUNGER metter. -BLEEDING: You will loose a determined amount of HP per tick. It will stop at XX ticks. Can be healed with medkits. As soon as you get bleeding use a medkit. -INJURED: If you fall from a high height you will break a bone. In this state you barely move, crouched all the time, cannot jump but you don't loose life (appart from the falling). Medkits doesn't work here, wait a few moments and it will autoheal. -RADIATION: Value located in the lower part of the health box. If it reaches 500 you will start loosing health. It will gradually go up as you are in a radiation zone like RAD TOWNS, you can hear the sound of radiation. It can be decresed by eating rad pills or going away from the radiation zone. Rad equipment will slower the radiation. -POISON: If you eat raw meat you will get poison. DO NOT EAT RAW MEAT -FOOD: Used to restore food meter. Dont forget that food restores HP too, use it together with medkits in case of emergency. -CRAFTING: With a few exceptions you can craft everything in game. You start with a basic set of blueprients by default and you will learn the rest by finding blueprints (Right Click->Study) or using a research kit in an object you want to learn. -DYING: Get used to it. You will die and drop all your stuff. You have a fixed amount of time to recover it, if not it's gone forever. When you die you have to options RESPAWN: Random sector, AT CAMP, you will go to the last sleeping bag if it has no timer. -GAMEPLAY: I'm listing the non obvious controls. - "E" interact with objects. - HOLD "E" open FURNACE AND CAMPFIRE menu to put items inside. Also opens the DOORS menu to set passwords. - "G" Turn laser sight on/off - "F" Turn Flashlight on/off - HOLD "V" to speak. Only a small Radius will hear you, the closer the louder. Be aware, enemy can hear you too and can track your location based on the sound. - Ctrl + Click in the plus (+) button while crafting will select the Max amount available to craft (no more endless clicking to craft)
If you need to suicide press F1 to open the console command and type suicide. You will loose everything.
MY FIRST SURVIVAL STEPS! Now that you are aware of the common basics things in Rust let's focus on your first actions and problems. First of all try to locate yourself in the map. If you can then decide if this is a good place to start. If you don't like the place press f1 then type suicide. The idea is to be in a place where you have resources to gather, animals and red animals to farm. In this places you will also find other players, you are warned. What do you do with these encounters depends on you. Once we found a place with resoruces its time for us to get the 2 important things: FOOD and sleeping Bag. So based on this our priority is to hunt PIGS, 2 or 3 will give you 15 cloth to make your sleeping bag. If you feel like going one step ahead try to get another 5 cloth more to craft the hunter bow (To craft both SB and BOW you need 20 cloth). Gather one or two rocks to get stone for the arrows and stone hatchet, and chop some wood to craft the bow, a shelter, wooden door and a wooden storage box Note: to get wood get the piles of wood, not the trees. In this process we should have the basic resources to start our little love shack. In total we need 180 Wood 10 Stone 20 Cloth to craft our basic things. You should remeber this quantities since this could be called the starter base for every server and everytime you loose your base. To gather this, aprox, 3 piles of wood, 2 or 3 stones (any type) and 3 to 5 PIGS. -Hunter Bow (35 Wood 5 cloth) -Sleeping Bag (15 cloth) -Arrows x5 (20 Wood 5 Stone) -Stone Hatchet (10 Wood 5 Stone) -Storage Box (30 Wood) -Campfire (5 Wood) -Wood Shelter (50 Wood) -Wood Door (30 Wood) Once you gather all of this and if you are still alive from the whole process it's time to set our first base. Find a HIDDEN PLACE to put your shelter. I will say it again. FIND A BLOODY HIDDEN PLACE, meaning not easy to find. I've seen and raided thousends of this shelters because they are in the middle of the forest or valleys and can be seen miles aways and this is exactly what you don't want 'cos your rust experiencie will last 10 minutes and you won't survive the first night there. So try to aim to the rocks, find a nice hidden place between some rocks and start crafting the structures. When you finish crafting the wooden door and shelter put them in your shortcuts. press the correct button and put the shelter in the place. Once you have done that place the door (move around a bit until it's green) and step inside. VOILA! breath your newly fresh shelter. Place your sleeping bag, wood storage and campfire.
NOTE: Campfire and all fire in Rust emits a light in the dark (gunshots, furnace, torchs, flashlight, laser sight) and can be easly, but really really easly seen in the dark, so my recomendation is use those in daylight. I will repeat it again, you D
Good guide for new people!
Good tips for new players, albeit a bit late to the punch.
