While I understand the need to maybe limit distribution to hide source code and such, it is proving very annoying for most players. I would like to run my own private server, I really don't care if there is a lot of hassle to do it compared to just clicking multiplayer and choosing create server, I REALLY DON'T CARE. I do not wish to rent one, as i feel i am being robbed if I do. I just want to play with a select group of friends that is all, every server we go on either has, hackers griefing all the players and are making it so admins cannot ban them or admins abusing their powers and attacking players and/or not giving a crap about how gameplay is on their own servers. It is ruining the quality in the game, and unfortunately ruining the rep of it too. If something isn't done soon, you are going to find that all your hard work is just a waste of time because noone will want to play rust anymore, specially with being lied to with the valve secure bull, every hacker we have run into on any server has proved physically UN-BANNABLE.
If you have been reading this rant thank you for doing so, if u cannot give the public what they would obviously desire, I would only ask you at least reply and give a good reason why.

What are you even talking about? I've personally banned 100+ hackers from the server I admin. I've NEVER come across a hacker who wasn't bannable.
This is something you can't expect to have in alpha tbh, as it is more of a luxury than a necessity
I play on a nice 50 person server I'm the onley one online. It's a bit dull but I can do what I want! PM me if you want the server IP. I can use some interaction. ( I'm not the admin btw )
there is hackers using name hiding tools, so that admins cant ban them. It truly sucks, that's why I am saying i would rather the ability to make my own private servers to disallow assholes like that.

Tell the admins to download and use Rusty RCON.
You can always do the unpractical thing and start creating your own game with your rules. By the time you get what you need, Gary may release the source code.
So what if they are using "non bannable names" just ban their Steam ID.

If someone doesn't have a name in-game you can ban them using the steamID
Open steam overlay
Click on View Players
Find the guy with no name and go to his profile page
Copy the profile page web url
Open google and search for SteamID finder
Paste the URL into the search box
Get the SteamID and use the /ban "SteamID" command
Done.

Dont know what your on but the hacker thing is dying down and on private servers I haven't even seen one. Lets be honest the main reason that people want to start a server is to be admin and cheat. If you really just wanted to play with friends your can do so by making a private server and giving the the net connect ex: net.connect 23.88.165.3:28025

Yes and how the fuck you suppose to do that. If there was any hacker that couldn't be banned (which there isn't cause you can ban there steam id) how the fuck will you get rid of him if others can't. People need to stop bitching about this and get over it. He will release it when he feels like it.

Am in ma twenties wee man, am no some child. I am putting up a small rant, mainly because I used to play gmod and it didnt have any problems like this game has encountered, I am not just bitching was just looking for info. So how bout u stop acting like a common adult still living in their teens thinking they know more than other people cause its more than pathetic, your just taking up space that could be better used for useful posts, and not just your stupid attempt to get attention.

Wanting to be admin and cheat? I dont care about that, all i want it to be able to play the game without it feeling like a failure everytime because someone felt the need to be a complete pr**k and ruin peoples free time and server rent charges by hacking to get what they want. I would rather if my stuff got stolen it was from a respectable player who wouldn't mind if i had attempted revenge for it, because thats gaming. I do see where you are coming from however but just letting u know that isnt my aim. I have just rented a server because I would like to attempt to actually run things, and that way i know an admin isnt just going to abuse their powers and do the same to people as the hackers do.

Last reply finally, I thought i remembered something about banning the steam ID, I mentioned to an admin and they were clueless. I guessed it just couldnt be done, obv just people becoming admin and not researching HOW to be an admin.
