can't connect to any server: wrong connection protocol

Hi,

Getting this error wrong connection protocol everytime I try to connect to a server. My server list shows up but shows no players, but in my history I can see people on the servers and stuff that I've played on but I get this error ever since the update. I don't see anyone really having this but a few people, what the heck is going on here?

EDIT: I fixed it, did what I was trying to avoid doing which was re-install Rust. I'm guessing my game didn't get patched right.
