I get that Valve wants to curb cheaters and hackers via their VAC system. I got banned for using a "flight" hack. However, I think that there are other ways to see this, something I feel should have been addressed. Let's start by going to the premise of why I got banned.
I was farming on Official Singapore server and decided to climb one guy's house. I got in from the top only to be met with a trap specifically built to lock people inside the house forever. Frustrated at the fact that I would lose my loot and everything else that I managed to work so hard for (which never happened before since there are a lot of Slayers with guns in this game), I decided to rely on a "flight" hack to get me out of the trap and promptly turned it off afterwords.
Now, I understand that the VAC system is doing it's work properly and that I am liable to be banned since the moment I downloaded the hack. I won't try to plead to be removed from the ban list (since it's not gonna happen and I don't see a reason why I should). I just want to know, is it really fair when the game gets me down so badly that I rely on hacks to even get out of a trap zone? I played DayZ for over 70 hrs and I never felt a compliance to even use hacks, not because I don't want to get banned but because I don't see a reason to since it's been fair to me most of the time (though to be honest, SG servers are normally populated with at most 10+ players). I also played Nether and still didn't feel frustrated at the fact that I die a lot as well.
Personally, if there is one thing that Rust is lacking, it's the fact that it doesn't really care for new players. People who are there earlier have all the strong gears already that they resort to slaying as a hobby. I don't find it bad or anything but when ALL players do that (including naked men with rocks), I do see an issue with the game. Survival games are fine only if the game is done up right. The fact is that both games lack the creativity in crafting that Rust have is also a reason why I bought Rust. But when I see things like Super Tower Of Sauron held by only 4 pillars or House Of Doom where players can't get out, I think that people are forgetting to create a game where players can enjoy. The game is lacking that enjoyment that kept me going back to both DayZ and Nether (with Nether less so enjoyable). I feel that player interaction needs to be a more focused key rather than simply crafting and killing. I think that aggro NPC mobs ought to be stronger, better, faster and meaner as well as having more spawned across the whole map to promote player interaction (though not as much dangerous as I would imply). I feel that the lack of compassion in players of Rust should be stopped and that there should be at least a capable number of minority (at least) that are truly friendly (not blindly trusting though) in order to let the game thrive into a more enjoyable game that it was before. Also, Rust shouldn't have trap rooms that prevents players from ever escaping without carrying necessary items OR give the player and easy suicide command.

another one bites the dust.
There is no excuse for using hacks. You were warned.
Especially when it's an alpha, you should expect things to be broken or not working properly.

I know there isn't any. I don't find any reason why I should even plead for myself. I am just giving my last breath by stating what I feel should be changed about the game. Also, I don't think Alpha means anything when the Public can get their hands on it and craft traps as well as become Slayers for fun. It's a matter of personal desire.
So, having first decided to solve the problem with hacks, you now decide that the solution is to complain about a well-designed trap intended to force you to suicide and define it as griefing. Okay.
Rust's problems are many and inconvenient, but it's not the only one having a problem here.
so you used hacks because you didn't want to loose all your collected stuff, and complain that the game makes you use hacks because you feel "down" for being trapped (well not really being trapped its only because you will loose your stuff there is always suicide)....
but what were you doing the other guys base anyway? you were looking for a way in to steal all his stuff not thinking of how it would make him feel, and they he get the better of your poor judgement and you couldn't take it and cheated

Sorry if it sounds like that. I don't really want to specifically point at that in general but I think it's more player-issue than griefing. I had died in DayZ countless of times but I don't grief. Why? Because of the fact that 1) there are still friendly players out there who do help people and 2) there aren't any hairpulling traps like this.
Also, a quick suicide command would be nice since I don't really think I can wait 2 hrs or so for my hunger to go from Full to Empty and then die. Unless the developers intended on griefing as a gameplay design, which I don't think so. What's worse than dying to players with guns is dying to traps that doesn't directly harm you.

I agree that I did poor judgement. I was also in a state where I didn't really want to lose loot that I normally couldn't even earn in the past 10 lives. Also, I had a camp nearby that I was afraid to get looted AND I wouldn't wanna wait 2 hrs (god knows how long) to die of starvation since I was at full that time.

F1 then type suicide
...there is a suicide command in the game already.
Type "suicide" in the console. You will die immediately.

Too late but thanks guys. I tried some other ingame person's help who said "/suicide" and then he laughed it off when I said it didn't work. That was immediately before I resorted to cheating.

No need to ask anyone else when you can just pull up the overlay and Google search it.
You made a bad decision.

Wait, how does forcing someone to use the wiki = good decision? Isn't that bad gameplay design? I mean, it's the same as asking someone who has never played FPS to actually play an online FPS game without ever playing a tutorial.
Your post basically boils down to "The game is too hard so I need to hack to be good"
lol

This is an alpha. If you are rebelling over it being suggested that you Google the answer to something you don't know, I really don't know what you expected.
But then again, you likely did go to Google, but to search for fly hacks, not a suicide command, so there's nothing wrong with your curiosity, it's your judgement and wisdom that failed you.

your ignorance is amazing.
So you like the idea of creativity in crafting, but when someone is creative and crafts a trap in their base, it's a problem? Make your mind up.
Creative bases are one of the appeals of this game for a lot of people. Not only can they shoot you, but they can kill you with their base and then loot you. They found a way to beat you without even being there. Good on them!

I expected that there wasn't any suicide command, since the "helpful" ingame guy laughed at me when I used it and said it didn't work. Was that judgement wrong?

I was attracted to the idea of a Minecraft-esque design to gameplay. I wasn't attracted to the fact that people could trap someone in place for a long time without using the suicide command to kill them. I don't think you would like to sit down in front of your computer watching your character stand still while counting the time his hunger ticks to 0 right? Same thing. If you were to really label me something, I think impatient is the word.

There really is no point to this thread. You claim you didnt make it to plead for an unban, but that's really all you want. You can deny it all you like but this thread was made in the small hopes that you would be unbanned. Well you won't be. Excuses about why you used hacks, or how the wiki is bad to use won't make people feel bad for you.
well you played bad and reacted bad

You've learned something about trusting people in a game where one of the main elements is killing other people. He may have also just been an idiot and not known the answer in the first place.
I hope you've learned something about impulse control and thinking about the consequences of your actions before you take them. You could be playing Rust right now, without a permanent mark of cheating on your account, if only you'd taken five seconds and googled "rust suicide command". The PlayRustWiki article I linked is the first result.
You believe everything people tell you? Before going and putting the time into researching hacks, surely it would be faster to research playing the game properly?
That is true, to a certain extent. But then again, when you ALREADY played the game for quite a while without even searching for a tutorial on how to play... do you really believe that you would tell yourself that you need to research on how to play the game?
I think we should do an experiment. Ask 100 people down the road if they know how their muscles work when they walk then ask them if they ever bothered to research it. I think you might be surprised at the number. Are they dumb? No. Are they making a bad decision? No. I think you are looking at things the wrong way.Instead of saying that it's a player's fault for not using a wiki to read on the game and everything that happens on it, I think it would be more appropriate to say that the developers didn't really put time into letting players know that such function exist. Rather than a console command, why not place a button in the menu screen? I think that would have made more sense.

Indeed.
EDIT: Saryn <3
Abusive hacking, 'good' hacking, occasional hacking, una tantum hacking all trigger a vac ban, because there is no way to determine which was your purpose, and we assume it was malicious.

That makes no sense? You thought of a suicide command and wanted to know how to use it. You had access to the internet and could have looked it up. Instead you went and looked up hacks to get around it. So to follow your analogy, these 100 people want to know how their muscles work when they walk and they have google in front of them. How many of them will learn how to build a car to get around instead?

To be honest, I didn't think of it. I read it from the chat where people are asking if there is a suicide command and there are people who said "Yes, it's !Suicide" or "/Suicide".
