So I've recently discovered that when I'm playing rust I randomly desync from the server, unable to resync without logging out/logging back in. While this has been annoying I've found out that I can actually kill people while I'm desync'd. The reason I'm most likely desyncing is because my internet sucks dick. But yeah this needs to be fixed. If I randomly desync in my base, I can just go out into the world of rust killing people invisible.
When you desync you are likely only killing people locally.
uploading a video shortly

Video will be up soon This is my bug report.
Also would like to add, I had a similar problem in the web version, where I would get a "resynchronizing clock error" in my console that had a countdown timer in ms. But in this version (I could not kill people). But I would still desync and have to relog.

is a video to what the OP was talking about looks pretty serious and should be addressed.
Hey I have seen this happening all day today, is there any update on this and a upcoming fix? Seems like ghosting will make it impossible to have any raiding or etc, in my opinion this is worse than the N step or Lag switch. Anyone have info on having seeing this in game like the video or similar, thanks.
problem still exists I am standing at a large wooden box in my house and yet I have also been able to kill raiders by walking up to their face and headshotting them while they place charges zombies dont notice me either
EDIT for more info I can only loot the box that my friends can see me standing at nothing else can pick up things people drop on the ground though even though i am invisible to them can't drop things back they are just gone into the ether
My friend was talking to me about this recently, he saw me in one place even though I was moving. I think when your player is still like that, you're prone to getting shot while in that ghosting mode, pretty sure it happened to me while I was running from a zombie because he was whacking at something WAY behind me and I couldn't see what it was, but I knew it was me because he was hurting me.
I'm also also having problems with desyncing, or "ghosting" as I like to call it. I can kill people when in this "mode", but I can't loot, but it is still unfair to others as they can neither see or hear me. Here comes the good part; it's a known issue, and they are working on it (prioritized on Rusts Trello-page)

same thing happens to me, FIX THIS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
I alway am killed in this ghost bug!!!!!
Same problem I have... for me, it's making the game unplayable, and I don't want to abuse it for lolz.
this is because you are using the windows xp operating system
this is because you are using the windows xp operating system
Dumb. This has nothing to do with windows XP. I have it while using Windows 7. Explain that one regarding operating system. Oh wait, that's right.. has nothing to do with it.
It's somewhat related to netcode, and it's also related to hardware as it's prevalent among ASUS motherboard owners.
When you desync you are likely only killing people locally.
Dont think a player will drop dead for a client untill the server says its dead
The more I think about it the more difficult it is for me to believe its a motherboard issue. I've modified almost every setting there is on my asus motherboard without it changing anything.. Also all of my friends playing use an asus motherboard. It seems to be by far the most common.
I would imagine at least one of the devs knows the problem given that it was fixed before and only came back after the last patch.. That's the most frustrating part about it to me.
Guys, i think i found a solution somewhere for people using windows 7 (and/or) asus motherboard!
A friend of me have the same exact problem of the ghosting and the desync and couldn't play with me because it was impossible for him to play.
You have to open the the command prompt and run it as administrator
write on one single line : bcdedit /set useplatformclock true
reboot computer.
For my friend, it worked, he has windows 7 and an asus motherboard, i hope it will be fixed for you too, im so happy to play with him now!
Yah, I had the idea from an old Source Engine article about running servers with 1000FPS, turning on WMP starts a High Resolution Timer on your computer or something of the sort.

Been poking around on this issue, found this:

Had a friend that was desyncing every 10-15 minutes do the workaround (ONLY WORKS ON XP) and he's been on for about 40 minutes now with no desync's.
some similar workaround's can be found here:

These play with your boot configuration, if you don't know how to fix it don't do it!
I take no responsibility for anything that may happen from this

yay automerge.
He's going ~2 hours with no desyncs.
#ShamelessPlug come visit our server to test if it works!

It's actually a well known bug. Pretty big topic about it in bug subforum.
Here is the link:

I had it as well. In my case I have one pc with win xp - there is easy way to solve it by editing boot.ini but only on win xp.
There have rly been different reasons on different windows versions. U will have to read the topic.
For eg. some ppl on win 7 fixed the issue by disabling overclocking.
Anyway - gl reading ;)
I've been ranting about this for months. Happens to me constantly. Only the torch counter indicates when it's happened.
Can u fix it in this year ? I bought game and im still waitin to play RUST without this bug...

I wouldn't expect a fix for the current version of Rust, but I'm sure once the experimental branch is playable, I'd be surprised if this problem still exists.
