So i was perusing Trello and there is a new card there, https://trello.com/b/NqKWMXID/rust-reboot I know none of this is set in stone (as someone usually points out) Snow is coming Yay "do you wanna build a snowman" but seriously this could have huge impact on game play, if we leave tracks as we walk about, we are gonna have to start thinking of backtracking, false trails and covering our tracks, even when doing basic stuff like resource collecting. on the other hand leaving false trails for bandits or other player to lure them into a trap or ambush. and it looks like Airdrops are staying in too not sure if i like this "where are they coming from ? if humanity is on the brink of destruction or building back up after the apocalypse, who is sending these, why they sending them? Why keep sending them ? when we the local inhabitants keep taking them i can not think of a story that fits. on a side note i have bitched about not being able to view archived trello cards in a few threads, how come none of you let me know you can, now i feel stupid, :$
Thanks for the heads up. The aidrops are sent by the Enclave of course :)
i take it anyone who has been on the Experimental branch over the last 24+ hours will notice not only do we break a crate when we run, but we leave a trail of yellow and purple squares which dissipate over time, could this be the tracking system? Beo would that not be the Exclave ? :D
Humanity may of been wiped out to some degree, But clearly there are survivors, and maybe theres sectors or an organisation still left, trying to help rebuild society and are dropping resources? :D Rust is great because you can play it as a single or multiplayer game, depending on your play style and mood. Airdrops and towns bridge the gap between the two really well, provide some sort of gambling X factor to the equation. Having a bare game with just sticks and stones might sound like a good idea to some, but i think in reality it would suck, we need to be able to obtain items which we dont start with and are unpredictable, it creates hotspots. and you need hotspots because the maps are huge, people and bases are hidden, so drawing everyone to a single location makes the game really work. On the trello cards, Its another level of transparency to help us gauge when the experimental will catch up to the current rust system. We're all waiting for buildings, weapons and servers to all come online.
Looking so damn good. So much more promise than was already there, even the background image gives be a nerderection.

Can't wait for the update. <3
Well it could be like when some airborne troops behind the front line were being resupplied by airdrop in WW2 and the planes kept dropping on the enemy lines or in no-mans land, cause that was were they were ordered to drop and were told to ignore all signals from the ground telling them otherwise. There might be 'others' who are the intended recipients of the packages but they're in the wrong spot; let the conspiracy theories begin..
I noticed ''weapon/item throwing",looks like things are looking up for us.

I hope there's a new feature that lets you heal the "Injured" status like the splint. xD Falling an inch and breaking your legs with no way to fix it can be extremely irritating. And my thoughts were that we would never confront or find this 'other' force, (that would be end game for a single player type scenario) but 'they' would be out there, an ever present unknown force that we are essentially gaining the advantage from stealing their intended equipment.. :tinfoil:
or for an outside the box scenario OK so let start with a post apocalyptic time period say 5-10 years from now but the time is erroneous, as the time that passes from the first bomb to the first human to set foot on earth could be a year could be decades. 2 years from now a major war is started and does not abate, the warring nations pile millions into developing tech automated factory's with zero worker, these were set to work manufacturing supply's and vehicles mainly for military use, most of these vehicles are autonomous, also during this tech advancement one government was experimenting on creating an army of clones and also the cloning of animals for food and predator animals for the genes to create artificially enhanced clone, on a remote island, in a fully automated facility deep under ground. the war reached a climax 5-10 years from now and nuclear war decimated all living animals and humans, now the war is over but the computers now running on solar and renewable energy still try to complete the tasks they were set. the island is rust, the computers deep in rust island complete there work and the waste animals that are no longer needed are discarded, a computer not knowing what to do with them but knowing it must clean to await it's next assignment, simply releases these creatures into the wild, the creatures start to breed, meanwhile the human cloning is coming to the end of it's gestation period the human hatch-lings are ready to emerge, fully grown with rudimentary life skills programmed in, the computer not knowing what to do decides to release the humans to the island as a storage area, (this would give you the endless spawns of new people that look the same.) meanwhile an automated military computer on the mainland scans the world looking of survivors, why you may ask, well as just moments before the bombs hit one of the scientist at the main automated plant altered the code of the computers to search out and aid any survivors of the holocaust. hence when the population of the island reaches a certain level the computer detects the life signs and sends an drone plane to deliver supply drops. This could also account for patrol helicopter another governments automated system looking for bio-metric signs of enemy soldiers, due to the fact all the humans left are clones of a soldier, any human the scan pick up are tagged for deletion. also this would account for near perfect guns ect.. still around (due to automated manufacturing plants) this could mean we fight robots as well, sort of like MAD MAX meets TERMINATOR so i did think up a alternate scenario. sorry it's a bit rambled but it's late and i had a brain burst.
meanwhile an automated military computer on the mainland scans the world looking of survivors, why you may ask, well as just moments before the bombs hit one of the scientist at the main automated plant altered the code of the computers to search out and aid any survivors of the holocaust. hence when the population of the island reaches a certain level the computer detects the life signs and sends an drone plane to deliver supply drops.
I was just about to post something very similar. The drops are from computer controlled drones. The supplies are either very old or produced in automated factories. Some kind of leftovers from the as yet unknown disaster.
just as a river card, in the thread "what should replace zombies" Garry said it was not about military or dinosaurs but something else on the list Robots were on there. also explains the mud apparel i.e pants. to help avoid heat sensors (even tho Mythbusters Disproved this concept) , like in predator. but this is all just speculation but it does fit. and is in the realms of possibility.
I think air drops are really just something to create PvP scenarios, how they are explained is secondary. On the collapsed society side of the fence, I guess something like crates washing up on shore would fit better.
agreed air drops are to create pvp. although crates washing up on the shore is more probable (due to ships decaying and spilling cargo) this would cause people to stay coastal and player on the other side of the island would not traverse the distance required or be notified by an audible warning of it's immanent arrival , were as air drops can be central on the map and therefor closer in proximity to a larger number of player, create a clearly audible sound and be spotted from a great distance. i think they have a good mode of delivery it's finding a likely story that fits i think this thread has evolved i wish i could chance the title. should be "rust reboot new trello card, speculation on story line due to content"
Why are you all wondering about airdrops? They are already on the legacy branch so this is just a catch-up for the experimental branch. Nothing special/exciting here. Way more exciting is the snow and, as some may already know, rain. No idea if rain is already on experimental (can't play cause I'm on Linux) but garry showed a screenshot: (source: http://playrust.com/friday-devblog-8/)
but seriously this could have huge impact on game play, if we leave tracks as we walk about, we are gonna have to start thinking of backtracking, false trails and covering our tracks, even when doing basic stuff like resource collecting.
On the legacy branch is grass that already leaves a track. So you are already trackable when you don't avoid grass (which you can't, for resource collecting you have to touch it). Anyway you are a bit right: Snow will make you trackable even on roads/rocks. It depends on the implementation to which degree (will the paths be removed over time like on grass or only when it snows again or when the snow smelts?).

I miss listening to wolf howl, rain, birds etc. I also hope they go on making the night kinda scary at some point :). It's quite annoying that the night means nothing now since 90% of the rust playerbase is problably using gappa or some sort of tool to see in the dark. I know this is problably for later on but it does not hurt to think about it now <3. Cant wait to be in the jungle at night and listen to some huge howl next to me instead of the actual wolf sound... pardon me but that wolf sound is the most annoying sound in the world. >.>
