aka wooden shack, 12 hour cooldown and is the only thing that can be placed on rocks etc. http://rust.wikia.com/wiki/Wood_Shelter_(Legacy)
nah, wood 1x1 is easy enough to get up. and IMO anything should be able to be built anywhere, not just wooden shacks.
nah, wood 1x1 is easy enough to get up. and IMO anything should be able to be built anywhere, not just wooden shacks.
so you think foundations should be able to be placed on rocks?
I think part of the reason the Wood Shelter was never added to modern Rust was because it was borderline useless. Yeah, it had a low cost and could be set up quickly, but it only really protected you from animals. Wood Shelters were very easily destroyed and a surprising amount of people thought they were "smart" by hiding their supplies in one with hopes that it would just be ignored(and naturally they weren't).
so you think foundations should be able to be placed on rocks?
yep. and within rad zones. literally everywhere it physically fits:) it used to be the way, but they nerfed rock building to reduce the meta of making a 7 story rock base with cupboards preventing building up to the actual base; the rocks being invincible made the base near invincible.
I would LOVE to see the shacks come back because I think they were an essential component of the whole rust experience. I believe players should be able to get a minimal ammount of safety (albeit shitty) quickly in the early game. I think the ammount of efforts to destroy the shack required in Legacy was quite right. The tools don't last long enough for that kind of long bashing right now. I don't remember even one person suggesting tool durability I have no idea why they did it. This and slow doors, weird spherical cupboard zone, etc why
it was borderline useless. Yeah, it had a low cost and could be set up quickly, but it only really protected you from animals. Wood Shelters were very easily destroyed
it says it took about 500 hits with rock or hatchet (sleeping bag is like 45)
I don't remember even one person suggesting tool durability I have no idea why they did it. This and slow doors, weird spherical cupboard zone, etc why
Me neither. However the slow doors make sense. It forces people to make an airlock and it forces people to be considerate of their base design more - and when to open their doors. Cupboard on the other hand? Just a shitty mechanic. In legacy you were forced to build stuff in a preventative manner so as to nto get griefed or locked in your shit. here that shits out of question - place a fuckboard and you are safe.
nah, wood 1x1 is easy enough
so is that it. pack it up guys because we can make a 1x1. yep tents and risky/low key shelters offer no gameplay value here guys.
it says it took about 500 hits with rock or hatchet (sleeping bag is like 45)
500 hits with the hatchet into the shack but most would go for the door that was usually wood so 250 hits . It didn't really take such a long time to break
500 hits with the hatchet into the shack but most would go for the door that was usually wood so 250 hits . It didn't really take such a long time to break
ive been hindered by a simple door =(
so is that it. pack it up guys because we can make a 1x1. yep tents and risky/low key shelters offer no gameplay value here guys.
the wooden hut was nowhere near as risky as a tent. as above it took a good 500 hits to break, and lasted long enough for you to gather enough resources to craft a decent wooden base (which was indestructable to everything other than c4). a 1x1 in new rust is more approximate than a tent, stop being dramatic;)
I loved the wooden shack. Quick to place, jump in, set door and hunker down. I have many awesome memories in the early rust days when I had no idea what i was doing and would be sitting in my shack when one or two guys would run up and start talking shit to me in voice, hitting the walls and door...I'd be shitting my pants... great times!!
I think a comeback of the wooden shack would be very helpful for starters. Often you get killed right after crafting your buildingplan and hammer, can be a bit frustrating to do that over and over again. A starter wooden shack could be crafted like other deployables. Sure it would have some balance issues but just like the small stash that you can hide would be handy for the start.
A 1x1 in new rust IS the new wood shack. It takes 1 minute in the forest to bang out enough wood for a 1x1, but with the added benefit of not having to destroy and rebuild your structure when you grow past the shack phase.

Not speaking of me, most of the time I don't have problems getting up a small base.
Why don't we just try it... if its as bad as csgo's revolver patch i'll suck nobodys dick ._.
Why don't we just try it... if its as bad as csgo's revolver patch i'll suck nobodys dick... ._.
We can't try it :) It's all on the developers.
A 1x1 in new rust IS the new wood shack.
its not the same at all. structure health, size, functionality, interaction, or deception.
its not the same at all. structure health, size, functionality, interaction, or deception.
health and size i'll agree with, although the difference is pretty minimal. what do you mean by the other 3?
yes the woodshack should come back.. I could think of a few good reasons as to why but i can't bothered to post them.
just make it 2x as hard as a wooddoor from outside and let it take 1 Damage from inside. and Boom we got a Shelter that were not gonna use forever

Bought the game 1 or 2 days after the release on steam so many players were clueless including myself. I went into the forest in front of the factory radtown (the one between it and the sea) and built a shack with half of the door facing the tree so I could farm wood all the time with the door closed. There were about 50 more shacks around mine and none did that so I thought that was a really smart move back then. After a few more nights I built a 2x2 with 1 door and during the night I kept hearing explosions,so I hid in a corner of the house with the hatchet(thinking they wouldn't be able to see me because it was pitch black -oh my sweet summer child) then I heard like 5-10 c4s all thrown on the same wall and boom two guys flew in one called Batman the other Robin, I said "ok kill me now" then Batman was trying to sound like Batman :D and threw me a lot of resources, said "excuse me for breaking your wall" and then flew into the skies with robin . I placed my wall back then hid about 2 more rust days in the house before I got the balls to get out again.
so you think foundations should be able to be placed on rocks?
yes whats the point of a survival u cant build in
yes whats the point of a survival u cant build in
the cause and effect of being able to build anywhere could drastically effect gameplay negatively.
the cause and effect of being able to build anywhere could drastically effect gameplay negatively.
how so? as long as ANYONE can build anywhere, it's fair play. it means that although a big group could wall off a rad site and have a big base inside it, i could too with the same amount of resources. if you don't want someone to do things like wall off rad sites, go kill them 1 by 1, band together with other players or build up some c4 and smash their house to pieces. it's more dynamic than having magic areas you can't build. same goes for cupboards;)
They should just replace the wooden shack concept with an outhouse. ;)
heh, i came across batman and robin too back in the day. weird bastards XD
did they also happen to throw you resources as well ?
did they also happen to throw you resources as well ?
yes, yes they did. in a similarly violent way lol. they must have had so much c4 at the time. nearly jumped outta my skin when they blew my door, followed by being confused as hell as they dumped gear at me XD
