WHAT THE FUCK ? MAKING MONEY ON YOUR BACK @Facepunch ? PAY TO WIN GAME ?
A lot of modded servers are actually doing that ;) It's the same as in Minecraft on other moddable games.
From what I could understand they are within their rights to charge money... it's like calling it "donation with benefits" .. or .. as alot of F2P games that have micro transactions .. also a Pay2Win .. but still legal!
would I play on a server that is doing this? hell no!
Mmh, this server is not modded tho'.
So, you can ask money and give supplys etc witouth any risk about games copyrights ? Ok :) Let's delete this thread so ;)

I can't see how it's against game copyrights as you are not selling codes, or inside info regarding game mechanics .. they are simply saying that they will give u an ingame item if you pay them, as this will go into paying for the server.
I hate this way myself .. and would never even consider it on my server .. but unfortunately some people do this, and people pay to get ahead! :(
Solution:
Don't play on that server.
people pay money for admin rights in games
its funny as fuck

All too often the people running servers get little thanks; such is the feeling of entitlement from many.
It hardly seems unfair that they should cover their costs, and maybe have enough for a beer or two at the end of the month.
I ran a couple of Legacy servers back in the day, and with the hacking issues on top of the usual problems, it certainly could've been more rewarding. I decided against such a model as the potential backlash would've been more than my patience could stand.
That said, if any profits are shared amongst the admins to incentivise a fun, friendly, and relatively hacker free server, more power to them.
A well run server with a population of any decent size will pay for it's costs with donations from users who enjoy playing there. This is not one of those servers.
Don't suppor servers like that. There's no reason to play on it. I'd never play on a pay to win server.
Making money off dumbass players who need to pay in order to survive?
Sounds like the admin is pretty smart.
Until he's inundated with whiney bitches who lost their $20 AK because they couldn't buy any skill.
That sounds like a pretty bad idea for keeping players long term. But as long as they don't try to deny that they do it, I don't see how it's too bad. I just hope that we get a system for voting or commenting on servers so we can avoid investing time in lame servers such as this one.

The trolls that would emerge, and the 'players' that would up-vote crappy servers would destroy such a system. The in-game server player count spoofing is already bad enough, and would creep in eventually.
It's a nice idea, but removing the false votes may prove impractical.

It would be a very trivial matter to prevent people from abusing the system, this is not a valid concern.

Thats good to hear Zipper. I'd like to see something like this. How long will it take you to put something like this together for the benefit of the Rust community?

I don't want any third party systems to be honest. Garry needs to put it into the game himself so that it actually gets used. I'm not a programmer, I don't pretend to be, but it wouldn't be difficult to put in checks to prevent people from spamming troll ratings. Maybe Garry has a better idea who knows, but the point is, the quality of servers would improve drastically if something official were put in place.

Server admins pay for the server.
Aka, they can do with their server what the hell they want.
If you don't like these practises, switch servers or join official ones.
