• Preparing for Vehicles

So we all know that vehicles are coming, however this wont be another thread on weather we need them or not, but what I would like to see to accommodate them when added. It looks like they want to add mad max style cars, so there will need to be some things added. So, lets get started. Ramps: Simple enough, same angle as the large stairs (so about half the angle of foundation steps) can click to foundations. This will allow cars to be parked in bases like a garage. Garage doors: Swing up to allow cars to drive through, can be locked as well. These will take up a whole wall and are placed like walls as well. can also be placed higher up for shooting windows. Gates and Fences: If you dont want to store cars in your base and you dont want to build a wall or ton of barricades, these are a good alternative. Placed like foundations (always straight up) with the free placement style of barricades. Can be made in twig, wood, stone, sheet metal, armored, etc. Cheaper but weaker than a wall. Gates work the same way, but with a slidable door similar to that of lagacy's gates. Caltrops, Road Spikes, and other Traps: Now we get into defense. To prevent a car from rolling up on your base, there are a variety of traps. Caltrops and spikes will slow the vehicle down for a time, leaving the passengers vulnerable. Vehicle mines do significant damage to vehicles and some to the passengers (though people can walk over these and not trigger them). Perhaps even a large auto turret that targets specifically vehicles. Fuel: Once oil jacks and fuel towers are implemented, fuel should be refined at these stations for vehicles. So perhaps refine low quality fuel or oil into gasoline to fuel it. Vehicles should be costly to maintain and fuel is the reason. Upgrades: The devs mentioned a modular upgrade system, which I assume means separate part of the car can have separate upgrades. I would suggest either armor, storage, and performance. So if you want to put a big metal plate to armor the front, you wont be able to upgrade the engine since there is no room, same with storage. I dont know about weapon slots though, the most I would want to see is a turret mounted on a truck that requires another person, not the driver, to operate. No death race armored cars with machine guns strapped to the front. Speed: These cars are scrappy, thrown together pieces of junk and should feel that way. The fastest they should probably go is 3 times sprinting speed. Faster than on foot for sure, but not so fast that you can cover the map in a few minutes. Repairs: If a vehicle breaks, it takes a lot more than a hammer to fix it. Perhaps a wrench or even a blowtorch that runs on fuel as well as metal fragments to repair. So these are just a few thought on how I believe vehicles should be handled. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to make suggestions.
Vehicles? Rust?
I think those are all good ideas. We need additional building parts to allow for the storage and protection of cars / horses ect...
Vehicles? Rust?
Yep, in the dev blog they were showing the concept art for vehicles. Again, dont want this to be another thread arguing about if we need them or not, just some ideas if they get added. Here is the link, the art is toward the bottom.
