I am on a mac and I can no longer enjoy the game b/c of the new effects. For example, whenever I log on to a server bright spots fill up my screen. I am wondering if there is anyway to disable this.

Throw away Mac and get something better.

I don't use mac myself, but even if they're overpriced like hell, that doesn't mean that macs cannot have good hardware.

It's the platform incompatibilities. It's just harder to port to and represents a smaller portion of their user base.
Of course it's like that. However, a PC isn't "better" just because it's not a mac.
