• Rust eating tons of ram

I am running rust on my computer for around 3-4 days now, and everytime i close it and try to open another program that is not running when i played the game it wont open. When i try to "fix" this by restarting my pc, it wont shut down until i forcefully close all the programs running. After that, it just sticks in the "shutting down" screen. What i am thinking is that rust takes so much ram that windows is not getting enough so that it gets "stuck". This is my problem. I was looking for a way to limit the ram rust takes by setting a launch option, but i could not find something useful. if you have any idea on how to fix this, i would be thankful, since i like rust alot. Specs: CPU: AMD FX 4100 Quadcore | 8 GB Ram @ 3.6 GHz GPU: GeForce GT 630
Yeah, I have the same problem. Doesn't matter if I'm on the highest or lowest, it always uses all my RAM. I have 4 GBs of RAM. Same as you, my PC becomes like a zombie - it takes a long time until Rust closes, other programs becomes sluggish when I try to use them, and I have to force a restart to actually make my PC respond. I have a intel core i5 4460 (not exactly sure) and a Nvidia GTX 750. FPS is at 100 Fps at lowest, and 60/50 at highest. Only problems I have is the hangs thanks to the overuse of RAMs.
16 gb ram. same shit here
well and i thought i was the only 1 :b
Got a decent computer as well.. and the performance we're experiencing is ridiculous! when i look at my ram usage i have 60% on rust only, making my ram usage going up to 80-85%. And when i look at my fps ingame i get 15-20 at start, after a while it raises to 30-35 averagely. On good times i got 40-50 fps. Comparing this to my friends i hear them say 40-50 at start running up to 80+ fps on certain times. How the hell is this possible?! - We live in the same country, few streets away from each other. - I got a better pc than him. - Same internetspeed Yet he's going smooth as f*ck & i'm lagging like sh*t...
This is "normal" behavior right now. Rust isn't optimized well right now. While the game is in heavy dev and systems are getting changed and replaced constantly (like the decal system got totally replaced in last update) investing in heavy optimization is a waste of time when it can be spent on adding more planned stuff into the game. Until the game is more or less done I wouldn't expect it getting super optimized.

But how or why does it sucks so badly to play for one and going 100% great for the other?! We're playing the same game, on the same server with the same settings and tools?!

Are your drivers up to date? Please post your system specs: CPU, GPU, RAM Also, is Rust using your GPU, or the integrated graphics in your CPU? (I'm assuming you have a CPU with integrated graphics.)

Even then a few people have claimed that no matter what they do Rust will not stop using the intergrated graphics.
I noticed that while in a server, if you straight up hit the exit button (or the close window button) before disconnecting, the PC becomes much less responsive. But if you disconnect and then exit (I use client.disconnect with console because I connected with it) then the PC doesn't become unresponsive. Could it be that, when exiting without disconnecting, the memory used doesn't get succesfully freed up and so needs a forced restart for the memory to get cleared?
Such a memory leak is possible. Might be worth experimenting with and sharing the results with the devs.
