Problems with the control and video settings in RUST

I remember when this game first came out on steam and I purchased it (along with copies for some friends). I noticed right away that after setting my controls in the launcher, I had to set them again in-game because they weren't (or partially weren't) working as I set them. Now I decided to try this game again and went to set the keys in the launcher. First of all I noticed I can't bind the side buttons on my mouse so I had to go assign key strokes to those keys in order to use them. Next I got to the weapon switching thing and it won't allow me to bind the wheel up/down function to next and previous weapon. The little box for setting controls only shows 5 entries at a time, meaning you have to scroll so often to set the keys. All of this is a nightmare for anyone using the mouse in their left hand. I don't like right-hand-biased games and I'd love for there to be a reform in the way controls are set.
Since the control settings are now removed from the game, I can't set the controls the way I want to. I looked around for a config file containing my settings but I can't find one.
Another issue is the resolution default. Why does it default to 1080p when I'm running a 1440p monitor? Why is it that when I set the resolution to 1440p and uncheck the windowed mode box it still runs the game in 1080p windowed? Now I ran the game again and noticed that the "full screen" mode is actually windowed fullscreen. Where's the real full screen mode?
As for pros: the new menu in-game looks much nicer and seems easier to navigate. Things are easier to find and in places that you'd want them to be. It's shocking to see something visually appealing still retain the actual function it's meant to provide. Most software these days is going for all design and zero function.
Regarding the new lack of customization in the controls, it's hard enough to have to play these games with the mouse in the left hand, having limited access to keys around the arrow keys.. It would be great to have controls set in-game with the nice new menus that were added and the ability to set all the mouse buttons on our mice as well as the scroll wheel rolling functions.
EDIT: Somehow, even though the control isn't bound to do so.. the scroll wheel cycles through the weapons. Even though this is what I personally wanted it to do, it remains non-working.
So I'm not sure why but this forum is claiming that I posted this thread in Janurary 2014 when I actually posted it on November 10th, 2015. When I checked this thread I knew that it was wrong and I had played a couple months ago and made the thread, so I checked steam and that was the date I played which was also the date I posted.
Anyways, I've noticed that in the past couple months, alot of the controls have been removed from the launcher (finally!). So that's great. They are now in-game in the options page and better than ever.
You can now bind side mouse keys, which is beautiful and I'm so happy about that. The next and previous weapon binds default to an inversed scroll wheel setting. I'm not sure why, but over the recent decade I've seen games put this the wrong direction and this game is one of them. Scroll wheel up is normally for "next weapon" not "previous weapon" and vice versa. Anyways I went to go and bind these the normal way and it won't allow me to bind the scroll wheel function at all. Once you try to bind it you get nothing so you have to hit "Esc" to get out of the bind screen, which clears the bind completely. Gratefully, there is now a config that can be edited (once again, like old times) that has the binds in it so I was able to restore the default bind then reverse the up and down function.
The new chat is somewhat better, though takes up too much of the screen. It would be nice to have the option to modify the size of the text, some kind of scaling adjustment of the entire chat area maybe.
Now on to the existing problems:
1. You STILL cannot use fullscreen mode for some odd reason. The game runs in borderless windowed mode and there's no setting to change it to true fullscreen. Very annoying having to unlock my Windows key then press the Windows key to tab out and the fact the cursor can go to my other screen when I don't want it to do that. Also, for performance reasons, running fullscreen would be preferable.
2. The server favoring isn't working properly. I selected a favorite last night and it isn't showing up in my favorites list which is completely empty. The history actually works (used to not really work in original RUST) so I'm able to find the server I was playing on. I tried favoring it again, and it still won't save to my favorites.
3. ShadowPlay no longer works in this game. I doubt they removed support for the game, so I'm pretty sure that this is due to a change in RUST. Could it possibly be the borderless windowed mode? Would probably need to turn on Desktop Capture, which I don't want to do.
4. Trees can be invisible. You can run into them but can't gather resources and can't see them. I spent about 20-30 minutes looking for trees and wondering why I would get stuck sometimes, thinking it was some kind of rubberbanding. When I met up with my friend he said there was a tree right in front of me and I walked there but experienced the same problem, so I realized the were just invisible. After restarting the game the trees were loaded.
5. The "circular menu" when interacting with things like doors and furnaces is a little delayed. I like to click things immediately and quickly so it bothers me a bit. Not sure what this is like for other people.
6. I've been on other windows then went back into RUST and was unable to aim. I saw a Windows cursor over the game and nothing I do allowed me to aim.
7. Is this game intentionally allowing overkill settings or is this not normal? I feel like there's some latency with the aim, as if vsync is on but especially more noticeable when the graphics are higher. It's like input lag but the game is still smooth as far as fps. The only things I could imagine are that there's something not working properly or the graphical settings are intentionally made to be stronger than what's available for PCs currently. Another possibility is that the game has SLI support and that is what I'm missing to run it fully maxed. Load times also seem a bit slow.. Specs follow...

you can change the size of chat.. It's under ui scale in options. But it scales the entire ui, I usually turn it down a fair bit anyway.
1. Full screen mode works perfectly... Never had a problem with full screen and I can toggle between windowed and full screen through the launcher.
2. Favoring servers isn't important as history works.
4. I have never, ever walked into an invisible tree, I would think this is client related on your end.
5. The circle wheel has always been very fast and responsive for me.
6. Never had this problem.
7. Not sure what you mean but they currently have lazy aim as people were just putting a dot on their screen and hip fire killing everyone. With the update tomorrow lazy aim will be disabled though. If that is what your talking about it will be fixed tomorrow.
