Just realized that those facemasks must be really uncomfortable and make no sense in giving any defense at all atleast in reality.

Yes I see what you mean, I wouldnt want to be wearing one if someone hit me in the face with a machete.

It's better hitting you on the facemask with machete then straight to your face

I was more thinking about bullets and not mellee.

Of course not, its a thin piece of sheet metal, just look at world war 2 helmets, they weren't really intended to stop rifle-caliber rounds.
