1 preset - 60 fps but lags like 20. Mixture of drivers and support OpenGL is not as well optimised as Direct3D which has had millions possibly billions more spent on it in dev time. Please be patient and don't expect it to run so well when so many other games do not even have Linux support period. If Linux could run games as well as Windows could I would never touch another Windows OS ever ever again. try this apt-get install xcowsay xcowsay I Love Rust
I have Linux as well, I notice overall lower fps then in Windows, but by far more smoother gameplay, it still has minimal fps drops from time to time, but on windows 7 it freezes literally every 10 seconds. But, rust randomly shuts down on Ubuntu 15.10, my laptop isn't over heating, I have a cooling pad, and I have monitored the temperature. It's not ram maxing out, I have 12gbs of DDR3 1333 hz ram. The shutdowns are very inconsistent sometimes it will be like after 5 minutes of gameplay, or after an hour or two. And it never shuts down when playing other games, like Gmod, Minecraft with High shaders mod, or playing unturned. My specs: (It's a think pad W510) OS: Ubuntu 15.10 64 bit Processor: Intel I7 8 core processor @1.8 GHZ GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 880m (1 Gb of vram) My storage: Idk what it is all I know it is a hhd around the 2010 era. Ram: 12 gbs of DDR3 1333 HZ. Graphics driver: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/95165/en-us
:boxhide: *bump*
I fix microfreezes since kill composit manager. (compton) But it not give totally more perfomance. My friend have fastest preset - 60 fps. fast preset - 30 fps. I have fastest preset - 110 fps, fast - 60, simple - 30. At windows i have maximum preset 60 fps. Also, RAM eating is extreme. I can listen music from youtube, scrolling site at windows version. On the linux (200 mb at start) When i launch rust in fast preset i have 7g+RAM and SWAP load.

Okay guys. I have new testes: Devices: 4770k @ 4.3k, gtx 770 On the windows 7 i have always freezes after simple preset. But always more than 60 fps. I mean that i turn on fantastic preset and have 60 fps, but often freezes. On beatifull too, but freezes less. And on simple it is end. No freezes. What about linux. I have fastest preset 60+ fps, fast 60+, but simple 30 fps. In totally i have conclusion: optimisation is shit everywhere. Nothing new.
I bought +8 gb ram. Windows fantastic: 60 fps, no freezes, stable good play. Linux Simple and more: 21 fps. Garry fix linux pls
Garry do you start optimise linux?
I bought +8 gb ram. Windows fantastic: 60 fps, no freezes, stable good play. Linux Simple and more: 21 fps. Garry fix linux pls
Answer : Use Windows until the Linux release runs well enough, you keep saying Garry fix please. I can assure you its not that simple. Otherwise everyone would be playing games on Linux why do you think games run like crap most of the time on Linux? There is a good reason behind it, a dev can do it but it takes time please be patient. Give me a call when you have created you own version of Rust which runs at 120fps on all configurations / drivers / distros / hardware combinations / kernel versions :godzing: I will be glad to review it for you.
Give me a call when you live more than 16 years.
Ok whats your number ? cos I should have called about 12 years ago then
Ok whats your number ? cos I should have called about 12 years ago then
Sure: +79253595322
Sure: +79253595322
I really hope you aren't stupid enough to post the real number on a public forum. But real talk though, Please stop having a dig at the devs the game is in Alpha just dual boot Windows until the Linux release runs better. Developing a game on linux is not easy but you make it sound so. Flaming the devs will get you nowhere, if you think I am lying to you just spend 5 minutes on Google and do some research on the topic. This is not just a Rust issue see for yourself.
You can't really blame people who advise you to use Windows instead of Linux. The GPU drivers for Linux are far, far worse, especially if you are using an Nvidia GPU. The majority of gamers use Windows, so they will get a prefered treatment. So don't expect any major increase for Linux until everything is sorted out for Windows.

There's even a few games that run slightly better on my rig on Linux as opposed to windows, Civ5, NS2 and one other that escapes me atm. AMD drivers for Linux are embarressing, that shit is always broken. I'm a big fan of the underdog and have been riding the AMD train for a long time but that was what made me switch. For reference, AMD FX9590, Nvidia GTX970, 16gb of ram, 256gb samsung ssd on bodhi Linux. Rust runs almost the same for me, On windows I get a few more frames on average but more hiccups. Linux also gets weirder problems like artefacts around players (hax right?) and wacky skin colours and the occasional invisible rock. Never quite enough to bug me though, they always seem to fix themselves eventually. So to sum it up: Don't worry about Linux performance until Unity finishes Vulkan and it matures a bit. Don't buy AMD gpus until they get their shit together. Don't install windows, it won't help improve the human race. Don't drive an electric car if your electricity is made with coal or oil. And don't stop giving the Devs shit. They've made millions off this game already and can afford to have their asses whipped a bit. User feedback, no matter how vitriolic, is always useful. That said, it helps to be constructive in doing so.
