So lately I been really getting back into rust. I played with friends back in legacy and just made the jump back into experimental 2 months ago.
So I learned about all the new updates on Washington server and had fun gathering BP's, but after the BP wipe I made the jump to New York do to better connection an less lag. When I went back to to look for friends on Washington it was gone apparently taken down by facepunch. Now on New York I noticed it will go down for 5-10 hours randomly and I asked around on other servers why this might be happening. The general consensus I got was people DDOSing servers and then they shutdown...
Sooo is this normal? Should I expect to have to keep jumping servers after they shutdown? I don't mind doing the BP grind I just wish I didn't have to keep farming them every month.
What I always hear is that ddos protection is very expensive. I have no idea.
I would figure it might be cheaper for Facepunch to shutdown the server under attack and open a new one.
I guess my concern is that this is common and it might be just something to expect.
Also I noticed quite a few of the similar names in global chat from Washington on the New York so maybe it's the East Cost crowd I need to avoid lol so I don't end up on another server that gets taken down.

It is very frustrating that the New York Facepunch server continues to shutdown on a daily basis. It shutdown last night around 8pm and didn't come back on until around 11am only to be shutdown once again only 6 hours later. I too played on Washington and migrated to New York after Washington was permanently shutdown.
At the very least Facepunch should provide us a feed where we can receive updates regarding the status of the server and what to expect.
what exactly are they going to tell you if the server is being ddos'd? "hey bro, being ddos'd. back in 5"? by acknowledging it publicly they will encourage the attackers to continue for longer, and if they move ip range, it will still be listed in the game's server search so you don't need the new ip to be posted anywhere.
My advice would be to just find a decent community server. There are a lot of them and you can stick to one if you like it.
I know the official servers are good for FP, but they just sound like a nightmare to play on. You would have thought that cheaters would stay away from official servers as well, rather than seemingly being focused on them.
That's what happens when you leave servers unattended by mods / admins. They might as well not supply any official servers at all imo. Poor people there.
