I've noticed the high external stone walls decay pretty quick, not sure if they got changed recently or I'm only just noticing it.
Either way, I personally think they should get a delay like foundations that is reset by an active locked door. We currently have some around our base that are a pain to constantly repair. What do you guys think?
I agree steel, lately I've seen some extreme decay on my HEWs... Like 500 hp in 12 hrs
Edited to add that I notice the further away from my main cup board the HEWs are seems to affect the decay rate.
My walls are separated from the tool cupboard by a normal stone wall and that's it and they still decay pretty quick. I'm fine with them decaying over time, everything should but a delay would be nice so if you're active, it's not as much of an issue.
The high wall base health is 500 like normal stone walls but they have a 3X multiplier on health. I'm assuming they decay at 3X the HP as well which would explain the high rate of decay.
IMHO decay is so messed up I refuse to play on decay enabled servers. They need to stop pushing changes that haven't been tested, it's getting ridiculous. Gotta wonder why they even have "dev" server. Yeah yeah alpha blah blah blah, no need to tell me I know the song but still. It's almost like they're trying to keep the number of players down by purposely pissing off players every week.
To be fair normal base decay at the moment isn't a problem for me. Granted I have time to log in every day so it resets the decay so can't say how it is for other people as my base is yet to start decaying except for those damn stone walls.
You may be right about the x3 decay rate though.

Proximity to the main or auxilliary tool cupboards seems to have no effect on decay rate of HEWs. Confirmed this when I was home for lunch. I have walls that are within range, and some outside that were all placed within a 20 minute period last night.
As of lunch time today (roughly 12-ish hours after they were placed), they were at 998-1002 HP. With the ones I placed first being the lower HP. The last ones I placed were well out of range of my master cupboard and had more HP than the ones within its range.

I stand corrected. At least we're both seeing about 1000 hp loss per day! XD Regardless, I sure hope this gets corrected soon. I didn't plan on repairing 150 HEWs a day :/
Yeah the first 2 hrs production from my quarries goes to repairing the walls protecting the quarries.
Yeah, the decay on the HEWs is stupid the way it is. I've actually used just regular foundations and 2 layers of walls to wall in part of the compound because it's easier to open a door every day than to play Hammer Swinging Simulator for 2 hours every day getting my walls back in order.
It would be nice if the decay accelerated so it really slowly decayed and the longer it went without being repaired, the faster it would take damage. Would mean people would still have to repair the walls and be active and vigilant but it wouldn't waste so much time and resources repairing them from 50% health every day.
The decay on HEW seems quite unpredictable.
Sometimes I can leave them over night and they could have decayed only slightly, if at all.
Other times they start decaying right after I repair them.
Hopefully this will be looked into at some point.
I realize this is kinda a necropost, but this thread is the 3rd result when I searched Google.
Was this ever addressed or explained in some way? I'm still seeing all the behaviours described in this thread.
I believe the decay rate has been addressed (haven't performed any in-depth testing lately) but iirc they implemented a mechanism on the HEWs decay to reset when an attached gate is opened and closed. We have some HEWs up now (about 36 hrs old) and most are about 10-20 hp down from max health (750 hp). The ones not attached to/near a gate are about -50 hp. Hope that helps.
Edit: I'm wrong twice in the same thread lol. So it's likely that my repairing is actually what is slowing my decay. I got curious and perused the devblogs. In Devblog 99.1 (https://playrust.com/devblog-99-1/) they allowed the 'decay delay' to reset when repaired. So it'd be best to repair walls on a regular basis. opening and closing doors only resets decay for foundations within 40m.
bumping this thread because the problem wasnt resolved. my walls were 750/750 when i logged out friday night. went away for full day saturday. logged in sunday mid morning to find all walls were 108/750. that decay is insane.
AFAIK The only way to reset Decay on HEWs is to bash them with a hammer. Even if they are full health.
I Used to have a compound with 3 layers and wooden floors spikes between them. Doors/Gates do not reset the decay on them.
That only works on "Internal" walls. Unless it was changed.
Eahc time I was logging off I would go around with stone and bash them even if full health this seemed anyway to slow down decay.

is that on official servers or community , modded
Decay is indeed the reason why, and I guess some people with me, do not play on official servers (or servers where decay is enabled). I have a lot of stuff to do besides my work, like a social life and going to the gym for my diet. Still I like to play Rust very much, but as I have a lot of other stuff to do, I can't login for three days in a row. With other means: my base is gone when I log back in. If it is raided, it is okay for me, I don't mind, but completely gone just sucks!
So if there comes a real-time app for Rust someday, they should give you the opportunity to click on your door/cupboard to reset the decay for everything surrounding. That way it is not obligatory to log in everyday, but just by pressing a button on your phone. This way they still demolish the abandoned bases, because no one resets the decay by his phone. That would be very nice!
