• Interesting side effects of XP

I've never played a game with an XP system in place so am looking forward to trying something new, very exciting. I was thinking today how such a big change will effect modded servers, I'm talking about the crazy modded servers x5 x10 x5000 gather; I'm assuming half of these were started to avoid "the grind". Now with a delicate balance of unlocking things vs how much you have bashed rocks etc I would have to thought that many of these players on modded servers will find themselves farming for no reason at all other than to unlock XP. Continuing to farm rocks after rocks after rocks getting crazy amounts of stone even though they've more than finished their base...but they really want to get that gun...or that pick-axe I don't personally play on the crazy gather type servers I'm a vanilla guy myself, but I haven't really seen people discussing how the XP system will effect gameplay on modded so maybe It won't be so much of a problem for them? Suppose it'll even effect that fake-xp plug-in that I've seen, they'll have to ease up on how much gather levels up? I spoke to one server owner a while ago and they themselves admitted they hadn't thought of that, and that perhaps they would have to scale back their server to x1. Just some interesting thoughts I felt like sharing.

Maybe it can be disabled. Maybe its configurable. There are some servers that have their own leveling system plugin.
Modded will be modded off course! So there are many ways they will find that will suit this problem. Probably they will indeed make a faster rate of gathering XP so that you will be faster to your end gear. Next to that it would be awesome to shoot someone holding a bow and finding 100k+ stone, sulfur, etc. xD I think it will solve itself on the long run. A lot of resources are needed to build a big base (since the biggest difference between vanilla and modded is the size of the bases) so they are still obligatory to gather some resources meaning that they will level up as well.
ZLevels is the current mod I have been using on my server for quite some time. The base of the plugin allows a player to gain a multiplier based on their experience. Starting out, you receive a x30 multiplier whether you are hitting trees or rocks or skinning. By the time you hit a cap level of 50 you are receiving a x500 multiplier. In essence, you still have to work for it but it scales with each level you gain

Even within vanilla servers!
I suppose the XP will be modifiable, in which case I suppose you would tie it in using the same sort of ratio with the fake-xp from the fake-xp-gather plugin thing.. that is to say that everyone would level up to top tier within a few hours or less. o.o
I imagine people will find a way to award you maximum XP and all BPs as soon as you join the server so that you're essentially playing WITHOUT the XP system. This is a good thing, allowing people to play the game their own way via mods while making it the way you see best is definitely the most ideal form of Early Access (for the players, that is).
