So I decided to reinstall gmod after a long time.
Whilst the top of the water in any map looks fine, going into said water will result in everything going bright white, and the undersurface of the water being black/purple/checkered.
Is this a normal problem, or is there a fix?
I'm playing in dx8, if that's an issue.
Any chance I could bump this? This is quite an annoying issue and would love to know if it can be fixed.
Could you post some system details + what map you're playing on?

I can't post my system specs at the moment, but the specs shouldn't be a problem.
Also, this occurs on any map with water that you can swim in.
Have you tried playing in dx9? The only other thing I can think of is simply your graphics card is failing to render it for some reason or there's something trying to over-ride the material, so my only other suggestion other from the dx9 is to completely delete garry's mod and install it again.
(Deleting it can be as simple as directing yourself to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\STEAM_NAME\
and you can either just delete the folder "garrysmod" or just rename that folder to "garrysmodold" then starting up gmod again)
Also make sure to verify integrity of game cache, doubt it'll help but you never know.
(In steam right click on Garry's Mod, goto properties, click on the Local Files tab, and press on the button "verify integrity of game cache).
That didn't fix it, turns out playing in dx9 did.
Thanks for the help though.
