Ways to minimize fps lag and stuttering with large contraptions

Hey guys, what are some ways to help remove fps lag and stuttering and other general issues when it comes to large contraptions (I.e. SBEP spacebuild ships).

I used to use the smart constraint, but it seems to be extremely laggy. What are some ways to build and maintain a large contraption in order to minimize lag without sacrificing utility and the overall ability of the contraption to hold together?

You can either use a parent tool or if your making your ship with hover balls and stuff, you can use
a gyro-pod instead.
