"hl2.exe (Garry's Mod) Stopped Working" Due to DEP on Vista Home Premium
8 replies, posted
Simple as that.
I start steam up, wanna play GMOD. and then i get TWO (2) hl2.exe stopped working messages.
As they pop up i get a balloon down the bottom telling me DEP stopped 'em.
So i try to fix it by letting it through DEP. only for it to tell me it apparently NEEDS it.
Its worked before this. Can i get some help?

UPDATE!
Tried getting rid of DEP and did it successfully. Yet, GMOD still "Stops Working" On startup. This time without the balloon popping up.
Perhaps this is a cause of the "New Update"?
GMod (and every other program that doesn't try to do weird things) should be compatible with DEP.
It's probably crashing for some reason unrelated to DEP, and Windows thought it might be one of those programs that do weird things that don't work with DEP, so it told you to turn it off.
Did you update GMod today or yesterday? There was an update to TF2 that broke it, and then an update to fix it.
Yeah. It automatically updates PLUS. i cant play it if its not updated.
And i (Edited) stated that i turned off DEP
Still crashed.
This happened to me...
Go to your desktop and right click
Then Create shortcut Create it to "CMD.exe"
Then right click the shortcut and click open as administrator
then paste this: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Into the cmd press enter and restart your computer. This completely disables DEP (which is a utter twat of a program)
To enable it again (dont know why you would want to) type: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx Optin
In the CMD
Hope this helps. :D

No... Almost everything, including GMod, works fine with DEP. (Sources: I'm playing it right now with DEP on)
I Already disabled DEP.
If people didn't understand, i'm sorry i didn't phrase it correctly.
Anyways, i'll repeat this: Still nothing
Have you tried reinstalling gmod? Just make a backup of your addons folder and redownload gmod, and does this problem happens with other games too?

I think you didn't understand. I said you don't need to disable DEP, and it's probably something else causing the crash.
Tried reinstalling gmod? (Rename C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\yourname\garrysmod to something else, then launch gmod)
I get a feeling your RAM is damaged. DEP means an execution is coming from outwith the program's allocated memory, meaning you either have a virus, are running a cheat, or your memory is damaged.
