First of all, I know there are many of these threads up already, but I've looked at every single one and not one answer has helped. This is what happens.
1) I start Gmod from Steam
2)Goes to Main Menu background for 2 seconds then crashes with error message Engine Error NO STEAM APPS (engine error is the title).
Does anyone know how to fix this? It is driving me insane because all my other games don't work either! Here's what happens with ALL of multiplayer Source engine games (except HLSD) (but my Day of Defeat original works and Half Life Source Deathmatch):
1)I Load up hl2:DM, CSS, TF2
2)Loads up correctly, but when I click on Find servers it says 'Steam Beta must be running to make use of find servers'.
What have I done to fix it?
1)Restart Steam (x20)
2)Restart Computer (x10)
3)Run ALL steam games
4)Delete some Gmod addons
NOTHING HAS WORKED!
Please help, here is a link to my Steam Community: http://steamcommunity.com/id/HPAS/
Please don't call it dumb, I don't think it's dumb, I think I should be able to play Gmod and anyone else with these errors!
About the error happening with gmod, make a backup of your addons folder and them reinstall gmod, make sure the .gcf has been deleted after uninstalling it via steam.
With the other games, go to your steam folder and delete clientregistry.blob (your steam will update and redownload it), if it doesn't works, backup your steam apps folder and reinstall steam. If those games you cited before still doesn't works, try defragging game cache file on the game properties, or as a last resort, reinstall them.
thanks, I will try that now.
About the error happening with gmod, make a backup of your addons folder and them reinstall gmod, make sure the .gcf has been deleted after uninstalling it via steam.

Ok, tried all of it except reinstalling steam. Will do that if no one can help anymore. Sometimes I hate valve
Ok, had to reinstall steam, and now everything works again. If anyone has this error, follow filipgrohs instructions; make a backup of steamapps (so u dont have to reinstall games) and reinstall steam.
