Takes ages to expand folders when using the Browse option in Q menu?

The title says everything. If I'm using the browse option in the Q menu, and I click the little "+" button to expand the folder's contents, the game will freeze for up to 20 seconds before the contents are shown.
This generally happens when expanding large folders like the TF2 folder. Other people don't seem to have this problem; any suggestions?
