The game is crashing on start up (after the add-ons load, I choose a map, and after the bar goes through loading resources...initializing game data). It just returns back to the steam home page screen. This happens only in single player mode, multiplayer works fine. It happens no matter which map I choose. I have disabled all add ons and it still happens. I have made sure all of my drivers are updated, I have gone through all steps suggested on the wiki (force autoconfig, force direct x versions, etc) and am at a loss. I have crash reports but I must be an idiot because I don't see how to attach them, let me know and I'll send them. I'd love some help. Thanks in advance.
This is most likely caused by your addons. Your addons are loaded when you join singleplayer which is why its crashing in singleplayer. But in multiplayer it loads the servers addons. Try disabling all of you addons and see if it works, then re-enable them one by one and see which one is causing the problem. Or even try re-installing gmod.

I tried a few times with "disable all" selected and it didn't help - are you saying I should uninstall them? Or disable one by one? I'll do it if you think trying it that way will make a difference. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled, including deleting all local files. Any other ideas?

Deleted roughly half my addons (about 200), uninstalled, deleted local files, reinstalled and IT'S WORKING! I was a total idiot to have that many in the first place and won't do it again. Many rounds of zombified playing and mindlessly adding crap. Many, many thanks, friend.
