Does anyone know what is faster in terms of download speed workshop or hosting on the server(With a server hoster)?
Also, what files can be compressed via bzip ?
Do you mean WorkshopDL or FastDL? It's dependent on location, but either way, it's a personal preference on what you'd like to use. If you do use FastDL, all models, materials, sounds, and maps that you want to send to the client needs to be bzipped.
While Workshop may be faster in some cases, FastDL is generally a lot more stable to use and recommended over it.
I think he means ServerDL instead of FastDL.
ServerDL is the slowest method atm as it has bandwidth limitations.
WorkshopDL and FastDL can be compared, but if the FastDL is running on a properly setup nginx web-server with a nice private network port, FastDL will outrun WorkshopDL any day.
The Workshop is hosted on an Apache2 server using Varnish's Cache method, which is very fast however I'm not sure how Workshop distributes the files to the client.

Bzip2 is the bziper
Let me elaborate more, I have a server with NFO and they have a pretty much auto-fastdl you bzip the file upload it and "websync" it and you're done, but i'm stuck on which one I should do, I want to make it all one place so all workshop, or all web-hosted I know sometimes the workshop can go down but I don't know which one is 'faster' or if they are equal. Also, I still don't know all the file types I can bzip(or should)

You can/should bzip any game resources. The "speed" is dependent on the amount of files and their size. If you have A LOT of files and/or they are > 50-100Mb, use workshop.
Ok, thanks. I have about half a gig on my server... I add to much stuff :|
