Hello there, i recently reinstalled garrysmod to solve a few issues i had with certain features, and once i reinstalled, and then put the maps i backed up into the maps folder and then got all the addons to play on a spacebuild server, i was faced with a new issue. My game from time to time, decides to freeze for about a second stutters and then minimize itself, when i try to maximise the game again, all i see is a small black rectangle in the top corner of my screen however the game is still running and i hear peoples footsteps and toolguns like you normally would: http://img.techpowerup.org/120325/Capture1145.jpg <- screenshot ... Please could you help me? If you need further information just ask what you need and i will try and get it for you. i have already sent this to the gmod support so don't bother suggesting it, it's been 4 days without a word. so in doubt of never getting it sorted i resorted to posting it to the forums!
Hello Joa, the minimizing problem could be a program gaining focus. (Popups from virus scanners, such things) A temporary solution would be running garrysmod with "-windowed -noborder" parameters. That would at least allow you to switch back into the game fast. [SUB]Any instructions/help is provided without any warranty.[/SUB]

[SUB]Any instructions/help is provided without any warranty.[/SUB]
thanks for you're temporal fix, it seems to have worked for the time being, but i have only played the game for 2 hours since i have applied it and it was not a valid nor thorough test, but seems to react much smoother, thanks for the suggestion, however before posting this thread , i ahd googled the issue and nothing identical was found but one person had an issue where the launch setting parameter -dxlevel81 had helped him, i was wondering if some one could give me some information on what this parameter does?
Switches the game engine to use direct x 8. (Worse performance, worse quality of materials etc.)
ok it seems that now instead of simply alt tabbing and become a black rectangle, it just crashes. either that or that crash was just a random crash.
As your problem is related to a crash, we require you to upload an crash-dump. Please follow those steps to upload one: What is a crashdump?! A crashdump is a file generated automatically when your game crashes. It includes important information about what was going on when the game/server crashed. Garry invited a website analyzing the dump and displaying important information which experienced users can use to determine what the problem was caused by. What exactly does it include? A lot of information. This includes (but isn't limited to): - RAM used - Path to Garry's Mod - Console-Log (doesn't function always, unfortunately) - Stack Trace (Doesn't matter what it is) - Loaded .dll's - Non-default convars However: Not everything can be seen clear text by "normal" users. Only garry got access to all functions. How to create a crashdump: Step 1 - Find the crashdump Client Browse to your "steam" folder (Usually found at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\) and open the "dumps" folder. Use the windows "detail" view and sort by date/time to pick the latest crashdump. Server Browse to your servers orangebox folder (the folder with the second srcds.exe in it). Open the "dumps" folder. Use the windows "detail" view and sort by date/time to pick the latest crashdump. Step 2 - Upload the crashdump Browse to http://dumps.garrysmod.com/. Open the file selector and choose your *.dmp file. Now click the huge button on that page called "EAT MY DUMP". You don't need to wait for it to process. Just copy the URL in the top of your browser and post it. That's it!

Hey, unfortunately, there is no obvious visible error to me. Seems to be something internal. You could try updating your drivers, just to ensure it's not a driver problem. Your graphic card drivers might be outdated. Keeping your driving card updates up-to-date is necessary to get the latest bugfixes and performance updates. You could also try running the latest windows updates.
