GMod instantly crashing at start up for no apparent reason

Title says it. Already removed all addons and checked game's integrity to no avail, so I have no idea what else to tell you.

She already validated and reinstalled, didn't work. She also started the game with no addons, still crashed.

Something you mounted perhaps? Delete the mountdepots.cfg in the config folder. I re-installed garry's mod and I had the same problem. Deleting that seemed to work.

try disabling any antivirus programs you may be running

my sister had a similar problem with tf2 and disabling avast fixed it
