make a folder in the addons folder, in that folder, create "addon.txt", type something in it if you want, then put the scripts/models/materials etc folders in the same folder as the addon.txt is in

addon.txt is the new info.txt, info.txt addons aren't loaded anymore because only old mods use that and old mods are usually broken
What do you mean.. so i can literally have an addon.txt file, with nothing at all in it, and somehow this 'hooks' the folder to be recognised as an addon?
yes
Now lets say i have another addon.. do i make a NEW folder for the new addon called, lets say "Mario NPCs" inside addons folder, dump the lua/models/mateirals/sound, etc into there, with ANOTHER addon.txt file? (of which will have nothing typed in it?)
yes
Jesus, learn how to use your words. The method you described, as far as I know, is incorrect.
As far as I am understanding you, Genephyx, you're having difficulty downloading Workshop Files through the automated process onto your server? If so, then what you need to do is this:
1. Download gmadconv. This will allow you to extract the actual addon contained within .gma files.
2. Navigate to your local addons folder and find the .gma of the addon you're attempting to extract. As long as you're subscribed to the addon and have launched the game at least once, it should be there.
3. Drag-and-drop the addon directly to the gmadconv icon on your desktop (or wherever you have it). This will extract the addon, with the structure similar to that of a Gmod 12 add-on, into your addons folder.
4. Move the resulting file into your server's addons folder. No editing of files is required.
3. Launch the server. You will see a line during startup informing you that the addon has been mounted.
4. ?????
5. Profit.
You don't need addon.txt, just make a new folder in the addons folder and stick the models/, lua/, etc... folders/files into the directory you just made.
