• Help with loading custom TF2 Maps in Gmod

I keep trying to load custom TF2 maps on Gmod, but it always crashes. I have copied the .bsp files into GarrysMod/garrysmod/maps, but it just won't load. I think it may have something to do with the maps using custom models and materials, but I just want to make sure.
Shouldn't be an issue at all. Have you got Team Fotress 2 correctly mounted to your Garrysmod?

Do I need to have the files in both the maps folders, like putting a file for a custom map both in TF2's map folder and Gmod's map folder?
No, being in Gmods folder alone should be enough as all it reads from you mounted games, is the content held within the main archives.

Have you tried loading a different map first, like Construct or something, and then loading the TF2 map directly after that? I used to have a similar crash-while-map-loading problem a while back, and that would always fix it.

When I loaded a working map, and then loaded a custom map, it still crashed while it was loading.
Reviving this thread because it was never solved and many people are experiencing this problem. Its been a while since I've mapped for Garry's Mod, and I had heard this was an issue. To test it, I made a simple map using hammer.exe in TF2's bin folder with the TF2 game configuration. It was a simple map consisting of a large room with a jack-o-lantern and one light source. No custom content. I compiled like normal, and placed the newly created .bsp in the Garry's Mod map folder. I launched Garry's Mod and loaded gm_construct in single-player sandbox. Once that loaded successfully, I tried loading my new test TF2 map. The loading screen showed up like normal, but part way through, Garry's Mod closed with no error message. I'm part of a community that largely maps using TF2 resources. Many other mappers have also experienced the same problem. It'd help a lot of people if a solution to this could be found. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.
TF2 maps are no longer compatible with GMod really, due to the updates to the map format Valve did in TF2.
Bummer. Does anyone know if there's plans for GMod to resolve this compatibility issue?
Bumping this old topic for high pagerank and no solution (yet?) Same problem exists here, TF2 custom maps unloadable in GMod, crash todesktop without error messages. Now I would like to use a workaround... Being able to decompile a .bsp map and opening the .vmf into Hammer I am able to edit the map (it loads succesfully) what should I alter for the map to work in GMod? Anyone willing to help me figure this out? edit: For instance, could I alter the game from TF2 mode to Half Life or some other game in hammer for it to load in GMod?
