I'm trying to make a modification of rp_downtown_v4c_v2 for a server that I'm moderator on. For reference, I don't plan to distribute this modification on the workshop and it'll be made specifically for that server.
My issue here is that it feels like it's nigh-impossible for me to get an uncompiled version of the map. I tried to add the author of the map regarding the vmf file and got blocked. This would seem to imply that he doesn't want to share it, but the thing is, there are at least two modification of this map on the workshop right now, which obviously used the original vmf as a base. It [I]has[/I] to have been the original vmf, since, when I decompiled the map myself using BSPSource, it was a complete and utter mess. I've tried contacting said makers of those modifications, and the friends list of one of them is full and the other one isn't responding.
Essentially, I'm wondering if anyone here has an original version of the vmf, not a decompiled one.
Did you try VMEX? It might have better results than BSPSource

BSPSource is a better version of VMEX basically.
Some maps have anti-decompile protection that will mess up brushwork when decompiled.
Thanks for the help, guys, but I actually found a decompiled version of the map that doesn't have the issues I ran into when I decompiled it myself. If anyone needs this, send me a PM on Facepunch or Steam and I'll send it to you.

Funnily enough, the version I found was decompiled with VMEX... Which worked. Huh.
