A new player joined the server, started propkilling everyone and right in the middle of it the server crashed. This was the last message from the console log.
What are your thoughts? Was someone using an exploit to crash the server? Coincidence?
This bad string came from a .vmt file. So could this have been his spray logo by any chance?

Looks to me like he is using a modified vmt file that can't be "Parsed" by the engine, causing an error. (Like when you write in chinese and then open it up in a program which can't see the chinese symbols?) (Paradon my english.)
